Please never forget

HSKRNOKC

Heisman Trophy Winner
On this day in 1995 at 9:02 am a coward set fourth a plan that has affected me and many many other of my neighbors friends and others families.

I was downtown Oklahoma City when the Murrow federal building exploded. I was literally 1/2 a mile away. After the blast I was at ground zero less than ten minutes after the blast. I remember seeing things that I will never ever forget.

The police showed up moments later and moved me back to a safe distance.

Please today as we celebrate Husker football and our spring game , do me one favor.

Please tell your husband or wife that you love them. Please give your children a big hug and tell them that you love them because things can change in a heart beat.

Thanks

Amen! I remember that day very clearly too. My sister lives in OKC and worked right down the street. It took a long time to reach her to find out she was safe! (PS....I told my husband I love him!)

I was in my office on Tinker when that bomb exploded. I remember hearing what I thought was a sonic boom and thinking to myself, "someone's gonna get their pee-pee smacked for breaking the sound barrier in this area". Went outside a few minutes later to smoke a cigarette and seen the smoke billowing from the downtown area. Myself and another guy both commented that someone must be burning tires because the smoke was so black. Went inside where everyone was gathered around the t.v. I asked what happened and they said their was an explosion downtown. Initial reaction was it was a gas leak. Then a short time later the comment that a bomb had exploded started to make its rounds. A few hours later I received a called from a guy asking me to come downtown to work. Spent the next two weeks downtown.

I was in OKC when it happened, I was driving south from Nebraska to Texas and I heard it on the radio. I didnt acctually see the bombing happen but we did go and see what it looked like after the incident since we were already there. I was only 7 or 8 but that image stays in my head. It didnt really affect me much then for some reason but after growing older and being more informed about the world and seeing pictures of bombed out buildings in the middle east that image I saw keeps coming back. It really was like something you would of expected out of Israel or some other place in Asia not in the U.S. and much less OKC.

Thanks for the post, NOKC. I remember that day very well but was in Chicago, so it of course didn't affect me like it did you.
