Positives about Texas Tech Game

BigWillie

All-Conference
Anyone have predictions, thoughts, etc., for the upcoming game?

Mine are pretty simple....

1.) The first real test of the season for TTech is coming into Lincoln. A first year signal caller coming into a revenge game? Yikes. Cody Hodges (QB for Tech) is coming off a hard game where he was running for his life alot against that vaunted Kansas pass rush? Errr...wait. Hodges was sacked 6 times, lost 2 fumbles and threw a pick. Enter a Blackshirt defense already garnering 26 sacks on the young season. Cody Hodges may get more first hand knowledge of the turf than anyone. But hey, maybe he can tell us why we are always slipping?

2.) Tierre Green better be doing some cardio during the week, because he is going to get picked on ALL SEASON and especially this week coming. He has shown nothing to prove he is deserved of a starting position. But I guess while Bryan Wilson is still trying to chase the WR from Maine down, we'll have to go with him.

3.) Texas Tech has played NO ONE. Their schedule consists of powerhouses like Florida Internation, Sam Houston State, Indiana State and Kansas.....all in Lubbock. Your first game on the road after playing cupcake city and you are coming to face a pissed off and more talented Blackshirt squad? I'm certainly liking that. Although if I were Mr. Hodges, I wouldn't want to know that I will be firing up an insane trainwreck we like to call Corey McKeon anymore than he already is.

4.) I wouldn't expect us to go to the air as much as we did today. If I were a Husker fan, I would expect alot of grind it out football to keep the Red Raiders offense off the field and keep us on it as long as possible. But don't be surprised at the first 2 yard loss that we throw 10 straight passes.

5.) We will blitz ALL DAY. Our corners should be bumping on every play. Kansas made it look almost easy to get Hodges rattled and to get pressure on him. This Blackshirt squad is relying on pressure every game and knowing our coverage unit isn't exactly stellar, we will have to get Tech's passing game in a funk. Our blitzes will be pointless if we play a soft zone coverage, so expect alot of blitzing and press man coverage next Saturday.

6.) In the past two weeks we have all seen two different squads. Focus, focus, focus, it was taught at practice. When these guys go in to watch film on Monday, what do you think will be on their mind? 70-10. This game will probably mean more to players like Cory Ross, Daniel Bullocks, Adam Carriker, Jay Moore, etc., than ANY game this season. Do you or any Tech fan honestly believe that they will not play balls to the wall for 4 quarters next Saturday? If I could watch a week of practice all year, this would be the week. I probably can not even fathom how focused, disciplined and fiery these guys will be all week leading up until Saturday.

Yeah, so now my thoughts are done. :)

Fire away.

yep, no doubt these guys should be fired up...but more than anything after the OT win yesterday and the running at the goal and the success in the red zone OT scenario, the O has got to have gained some real confidence in their performance.

this was a GREAT win for the team and the kids.....i am very proud of the Huskers

and their will to find a way to win!

I think the Blackshirts aren't going to surprise them - it's obvious we've got ourselves a legitimate top-10 defense. I would expect TTU to throw the book at us this year....

...I also fully expect the Blackshirts to throw the book, tables, chairs, matresses, tires, lead pipes, sinks, anvils, and the president of the Debate Club right back at them - no one hangs 70 on the Blackshirts and doesn't regret it eventually.

I'm way happy with Saturday's performance against ISU - great production on Offense, mental toughness, obvious signs of improvement in all phases of the game.

The best revenge? I don't want to see a lopsided score. How cool would it be if we hung 35 on them the first half, then finished the 2nd quarter taking knees with 3 minutes left then coasted the rest of the game with 2nd stringers. as an obvious sign of mercy...and complete disdain.

MUHAHA! :woo

IRISH!

GBR!

I'm not usually one to promote "playing dirty", but first pass play that T Tech calls, have one of the LB's come in and level Hodges, even if it is late...

Just absolutely scare the living hell out of this kid. Let him know that last year, was last year, this is now...

Just hit them as hard as we can, so by the end of the first quarter, the whole team is in fear...

I think that we should run the same defensive package that Pitt ran against us. Get some aggresive man coverage underneath with at least one safety if not two over the top. Bring pressure up the middle against that stupid spread line, which should be illegal in my book. Our linebackers are fast enough to penetrate and get to edge to protect against the sweeps if they try to run them. Play in the nickel package all day long. Dont let them get those mismatches. This kind of defense will take away their screen game, and if can get the pressure, those crossing routes that they run wont have enough time to develop. Safety help allows us to be aggressive in coverage at the corners and stall their routes for long enough to get to the unproven qaurterback. Lots of sacks, turnovers from pressure. Of course, Im not a football coach, so correct me if Im wrong.

The one thing that is getting me right now is the sheer arrogance of Tech's fans. They act as if they are God like and are a top tier program. Earth to Red Raider fans, you have to win something first.

Yeah, so what, you beat us 70-10, here is your cookie. But what exactly did that do for your season again? A Holiday Bowl bid? Come to the Nebraska level where a Holiday Bowl bid is an insult and not a glorified trip. Posers.

It makes me want revenge that much more to read what some of their guys are thinking. It's just Sunday but I want to take the field myself against these guys.

We need lineman, and I've got the size. Suit me up, Coach Cally! I gurantee I can run block a little. ;)

Good points Stuck...I can tell you right now that we wont be at such a size disadvantage next week as we were yesterday. We have to get out of this prevent zone coverage and jump the short routes they run. I am guessing TT will have a defense at about the same caliber of ISU...It is just a matter of converting in the Red Zone-how can you be so productive between the 20's and just fall apart down by the goal line? Still a lot of work to do this week to get ready for TT, that is for sure. GBR!

:yeah

I wish there was something I could add to that...

Well we agree here. :)

Great points SiC. :thumbs

The only thing I could add is, maybe Cos should watch the tape of the Fiesta bowl, when we all but shut down florida...

Still one of the best defensive displays, I can remember...

Here are my positives

1-It's homecoming and Nebraska hasn't lost a homecoming game to anyone since 1968 when Kansas St managed to upset Nebraska 12-0

2-Texas Tech is 0-3 in Lincoln since 1993

3-Texas Tech is 26 of 26 in the redzone. If Nebraska's defense can keep them out of the redzone, the game could be very close.

4-Crowd Noise and home field advantage. Nebraska is 115-9 since 1987. Those 9 losses coming to Big8 Conference champs OKlahoma (87), Co national Champions Colorado (1990) and Washington (1991), Texas (1998), Big 12 South and North division champs Texas and Colorado (2002), Big12 Conference champion Kansas St (2003), North Division champ Colorado (2004) and defending Conference USA champion Southern Mississippi (2004).

5-Nebraska in the top 15 in almost all defensive catagories.

These are all nice positives, and they have merit, however:

1-It's homecoming and Nebraska hasn't lost a homecoming game to anyone since 1968 when Kansas St managed to upset Nebraska 12-0
While I cant argue this, I just have a feeling that this is another streak/tradition that is gonna fall at the feet of the pud/billy c regime. :steam

2-Texas Tech is 0-3 in Lincoln since 1993
True, but it means nothing. Actually, even last years game means very little, too (hopefully).

3-Texas Tech is 26 of 26 in the redzone. If Nebraska's defense can keep them out of the redzone, the game could be very close.
Absolutely true :thumbs it would be HUGE!! Im just not sure that it will happen.

4-Crowd Noise and home field advantage. Nebraska is 115-9 since 1987. Couldnt agree with you more, however, since 2002, these are not the same NU teams as the ones that were fielded from 87-01. :WTH

5-Nebraska in the top 15 in almost all defensive catagories.
Also true, but the teams NU have played have not been top quality. I have reservations as NU gave up 340 yds (regulation) to a team (ISU) whos offense is rated in the 90's, including about 300 in the air. Is it a one game glitch, who knows, but going against a good passing team, it could lead to problems.

True positives would be that Techs special teams are much worse (on paper) than NU's, they have yet to play away from home, that their competition has been terrible, and they have not played a team thats as good as NU. :thumbs

Well, let me just say, that I, for one, am looking forward to Saturday :woo

Football fundementals stress that everything starts upfront, the lines. I like the huskers being able to put pressure on the TT QB... but I know that it won't take too long to loba ball above a short defenders head.

Should be quite the test.

TOP should be a factor, as others say

But...... hopefully the O can take confidence from last week......

really looking forward to Sat :woo

More so, I' mglad I'm not the only one who is

Tech defense is improved, but offense

is not as good as last year.

Neb has better players than Kansas or Tech.

Neb defense should control Tech offense.

Tech is not a good team. Will lose four games

as usual. Tech may score 13.

But how many can Neb score?

21-13 Neb.
