So the Bo Pelini era starts with a 47-24 win over Western Michigan.

What say the coaches and players?

Here's a taste of it:

"We're 1-0 and that's what we came here to do," Pelini said. "I don't want to say anything to take away from them, but we can get better, obviously, on both sides and on special teams, but that's to be expected. It's a win. We're 1-0 and that's what I came here to do."

Compared with last year, Nebraska's defensive effort was light years better, but about the mistakes, Pelini said: "We threw a lot at them. They're not used to some of the game-week adjustments. Like I said it's a process. We have to coach it better and we have to communicate better. I'm not taking anything away from Western Michigan, but most of what they got we gave them because of our mistakes. That's good and bad. It's good because when we executed the way we were supposed to we were pretty hard to move the football on. And it's bad that we did make some mistakes. It's early on. It's the first time we've been together."

Husker senior quarterback Joe Ganz was excited with what he saw from the defense.

“It was awesome. They played hard. They played their butts off,” Ganz said. “You know there are going to be mistakes … but all you can ask is them to make them at 100 miles per hour. They played hard. They played fast. … They’re a couple mistakes from being really good.”

Ganz said Pelini delivered an “intense” pre-game speech.

“I can’t repeat a lot of it,” Ganz said. “It’s different than what we had before and it was awesome.”

Senior Cody Glenn said he was loving life at linebacker.

“I was like a little kid in the backyard back in Rusk, (Texas), having fun,” Glenn said.

What'd Western Michigan head coach Bill Cubit make of the game?

"We didn't handle it as well," Cubit said. "I think offensive-line wise, they're pretty good. I was really impressed with those guys. I think (Marlon) Lucky is a heck of a back. (Joe) Ganz, he's just a gamer. He's the kind of guy that just runs around and make plays. We had a couple shots early and we didn't take advantage of it. After halftime, the first series we didn't do real well, the second one we go down there and we score. I think the turning point was we got two turnovers near the end, but we go down there and didn't get any points. But our kids played hard. I think there was a lot of good things that happened out there."

And since it was Pelini's big debut, we'll let him get the final say.

"We have a long way to go," he said. "I'll enjoy it up until the point where I go to bed and as quickly as possible I'll get back to work on the next team."

When Bo speaks there is a lot of realism in what he says where Callahan was always a fantasy dreamer and said the same crap over and over again.
