Post-Game Presser

The only comment I have really seen regarding the post-game presser is Riley's opening statement and Eichorst's comments about hanging in there.  Were there any questions regarding the QB situation and why POB was not put in?

7 INT's in the past 8 quarters of football and he plans to stick with him...................good luck riding that situation into the ground Riley. It'll be your undoing.....

I agree...I didn't realize nice guys were also stubborn, but he is being nothing but stubborn by sticking with Lee.

It is kind of like back when I used to play golf.  I was horrible, didn't own clubs so had to always borrow someone else's.  I sucked, plain and simple.  But every round of 9 or 18, I'd have those two, or three shots that made me think "Dang, I could be good at this game...."

Here is a little gem:

On the offense:

“What’s changed is the results. I just felt like we had that capability, that we can be that team that can run the ball, throw the ball, play-action pass, but boy oh boy, we’re so far from that I can’t even hint at that at this point. I was wrong. We’ve got a lot of work to get back to that.”

And this one....

On the problem:
“Probably a total combination, whether it was getting beat or being confused.”

Riley is in over his head.  He has no idea what the problem is our how to fix it.  Lost is a word that comes to my head......The problem is obvious, your same OL starters are well, starting....Cav can't develop sh!t.....Langs is incompetent as the day is long.  We had them by over 40lbs on the OL and you didn't try to establish the run at all....9 out of 10 times on first down you pass.  The fans know it. You don't think DC's do...Your trying to run a 3-4 with 4-3/5-2 personnel.  You moved our best CB to safety, moved a 4* safety to CB.....Leading INT and 4th in tackles is missing.  Is he even on the team....I am sure that Tanner dod look great against this D. So has every QB we have faced.....The common thread is not that they are all world QB's, its that our D flat sucks.  10 yard cushion when they need 4 yards?  Stupid....

Nevermind...I just found all the quotes from Riley at the presser.  They are not encouraging.  He did not really consider benching Lee, and plans to stick with    him.

This where the AD needs to step in and tell Riley it's time to make a change at QB.                                     GBR!!!

^ So basically, you want Eichorst to make on-the-field decisions?

Reading his quotes I'd agree that he seems to be in over his head.  It also read to me like he was stopping just short of directly calling out the OC and the O-line coach in a big way.  Threw a lot of heat in there direction without actually naming them.  He's head coach, he should know, but being a "general manager" coach and not so hands on, I can see where his coach underlings may have been blowing smoke up his skirt as well.

Reading some of Riley's quotes...

This will sound like an understatement but we are just really, bitterly disappointed with losing the game.

Didn't look like it to me, nobody on the sidelines seemed to care much about the game. And they sure as hell didn't play like they cared!

They had us backed up field position-wise so we can’t overcome that.

Wow. Read that again. Riley said we can't overcome weak field position against a MAC team. Wow....

we never could recover from giving them two touchdowns early on and winning the game at the end.

Did Riley just predict his own future at Nebraska? 'Could never recover from Northern Illinois winning the game'?

Riley really backed himself into a corner with those quotes.

We were trying to come out of a hole. They had us backed up field position-wise so we can’t overcome that.

Can't overcome bad field position against Northern Illinois? Are you f ucking serious?!

We’re not consistent enough in any part of our offense - running, blocking, making plays, so we never could recover from giving them two touchdowns early on and winning the game at the end.

We never had a chance at coming back against Northern Illinois at home? Really?

I just felt like we had that capability, that we can be that team that can run the ball, throw the ball, play-action pass, but boy oh boy, we’re so far from that I can’t even hint at that at this point. I was wrong.

Jesus! He sounds way in over his head.

But kids are kind of the same, but maybe there’s a little bit more (pressure) on them here (as opposed to Oregon State).

Gee, ya think? You just now realize this?

He really is in over his head.  I do not know any OSU fans, and might be speaking out of my butt, but OSU was probably happy with going 6-6 with a win over a "bigger" program.

That presser reeked of a guy guy who is mediocre and accepting of that fact.....He is a nice guy.  I'm sure very personable, but not a winner.  Winners have ideas, don't quit and find a way to succeed.

I did not see the game, but just reading this, it seems this is a sad for all of us.  I really wanted this man to succeed, but I am getting closer to thinking like many have said.  Losing to NIU is not what a team like Nebraska should do.  I am not giving up yet, but Coach Riley's comments certainly put his future in question.  Really wondering if this will be a winning season, it does not look to be a certainty.

No, no, no.  The narrative has changed to he's willing to do what it takes to win.

He couldn't be that stubborn and stick with Banker and Reed all those years.
