"That position in this offense is a little bit tougher for us, so he's kind of working the running back spot, and then we'll give him some special teams," said Husker running backs coach Ryan Held. "When we get opportunities, we'll mix some of those fullback guys in, but just right now ... that position just isn't getting the reps at this point."
It is a tough deal, offensive coordinator Troy Walters agreed.
He also pointed to special teams as a big area where any fullbacks on the roster could really help. Junior walk-on Austin Hemphill of Gretna is another listed fullback on Nebraska's roster.
"Anywhere and any place they can help the team," Walters said. "Because we don't use that traditional fullback, their roles are kind of limited. But those guys are doing a great job on special teams finding a place. We always tell the guys, 'The guys that are traveling are the guys that are on special teams.' So if you play special teams ... then there's a chance we can find a role for you on offense."
