Presser Today?

Hey, anyone know when Bo's presser is going to be today and where you can listen to it/stream it live?

NOTE - These are Bo's comments from the presser.

According to several local writers Bo did not release a depth chart in the handout materials for today's presser.

Bo starting off slow talking about depth and experienced depth, and says we're better off in some areas and worse off in some areas than in 2008 when he got here.

First game is just about seeing how the kids react and execute the plan. We have youth on this team and you combine that with our experience and it'll be a good go. We'll find out a lot.

The players know they're being evaluated every day, but it's different when you get out there for real. The players aren't nervous.

Spencer Long has had a good camp. Followed up a good Spring with a good camp, anticipate him playing a lot of football for us. That's one guy Bo wants to see how he reacts. He's talented, tough, he plays hard and he's earned the right to be out there.

Fonzie is progressing well and is ahead of schedule. No timetable on whether he'll play this weekend. He's not real uncomfortable but you don't want to put him out there too soon. Mark Myer and his staff do a good job and he'll rely on them for that decision.

Bo can't think of any O Linemen who aren't practicing. Everybody is ready to go.

The incoming class is pretty good (Freshmen). There are some you'll see Saturday. Some have played good and shown the ability to play, but may not. May hold a few of those guys back. A couple should have a real impact.

If we don't win the Big Ten championship, is it a successful year?

A: I don't ever look at the season as a success if we don't win the conference. In this program we're about winning championships and if we don't, the guys in the locker room don't feel it's a success. That doesn't mean you can't have a good year.

Has the last two conference championship games worked on you?

A: Absolutely. It makes you hungry, because we've been close. It helps you how you approach your game every year.

Mike Marrow - TBD in the next couple of days if he plays.

We're going to run our offense Saturday. What's been put in up to this point is what you'll see. The kids have come a long way and Bo is anxious to see where they are.

If you talk to anybody in the country, Taylor Martinez is an impact football player, a tremendous quarterback. They expect him to take a big step in year two. If he goes down you're not going to be as good, but we have a very talented kid behind him. He's not as good as Taylor, but he's good. If you ask Bob Stoops what happens if Landry Jones goes down he'll tell you they won't be as good. You can't make any excuses you just have to go win football games. Bo has a lot of confidence in Brion, but he's not as good as Taylor. If he was he'd be starting.

Taylor is light-years ahead of where he was last year. It's not all about the offense, a lot of it is about how prepared he is, too.

The demands of the position are not more difficult today than they were 20 years ago. It's always been a difficult position. You've got a lot on your plate at that position.

Is there more pressure on Martinez in a no-huddle?

A: Not really, and in some ways it makes his job easier by getting him up on the ball quicker. In a lot of ways it puts the game in his hands more, but you can also take it away from him if you have to. Offense is user-friendly.

Getting plays in isn't too hard. It's just a logistical thing. It's not like we're running around in a two-minute drill all the time. And it's not to say we'll always be in high-tempo. You have to keep the defense off balance.

Bo thinks David is much more prepared this year than he was last year. Light-years ahead knowledge wise, instinct wise. He's always going to be a special football player, but he's more prepared. He's going to be better than he was last year and that could be scary.

Chattanooga plays hard, has team speed and is well-coached. They are sound at what they do, they have a philosophy and they stick with it. They do some things that present a problem for you. They've been working on Chattanooga for the last couple of weeks. There are things that, as a coach, keeps you on edge. They'll be prepared and ready to make adjustments. Their QB is a heck of a football player. He's obviously what makes their offense tick, and #4 their WR. He makes some big-time throws and he's one of the better players Bo has seen in a while.

Bo hopes we don't take anyone lightly. We didn't play well as an offense last year against SDSU.

Bo won't make any notice of the first B1G game. He'll leave that up to the press.

Bo gets reports about the guys in the pros but doesn't have much time to watch. He saw that none of our guys in the paper were in the waiver column. He saw that Suh got fined "for playing good football."

Bo thinks Suh is such a physical, violent player. Bo wouldn't characterize him as "dirty." In the NFL they have a big emphasis of fines. Of what Bo saw of his first fine he didn't think it was real dirty, but he didn't know much about it. Bo says Suh continues to get better. Would never characterize Suh as a dirty player. But when you're as big and strong and physical as he is, sometimes things are going to happen.

Charles Jackson's appeal comes up in the next day or two and we're at the mercy of the NCAA. It won't be in his best interest to bring him on campus for the fall. It'll be December.

Missing about Henery - he was so, place-kicking wise, pretty close to being perfect. That's a tough act to follow. Maher will be doing place kicking and punting to start. Both Maher and Bondi have had a good camp, but Henery is a tough act to follow. Bo feels we're in good hands with Maher. Has good confidence in him.

Maher has earned that job. It's his job. He's a mentally tough character and Bondi has pushed him.

Aside: kiss my a$$ Apple. I hate that your iPads don't have Flash. And yes people, this IS what I'm doing in my office today.

That's it for Bo. Players are up next.

Those were lame questions by the press. First true presser since B1G days and that's all they ask? Lame.

Here's Carl....

NOTE - Carl Pelini's comments from the presser:

David is bigger, his speed is still there and he has all the same intangibles as last year, but he knows what he's doing better. He's more confident with his reads and it makes him look faster. He gets it a lot better than he did last year.

Fisher has put on some size, too. You don't see the effects of the injury anymore. That's a rough injury to come back from, difficult to rehab. He fought through it and he had a good camp.

Stafford COULD move down to LB but he's a really good safety and there's no reason to move him there.

He came in and immediately established himself as a contender for playing time. No plans to move him.

If you bring in a JUCO guy like Stafford or Carter, you'd like to see them get in the mix. You don't recruit those guys if you don't think they can play right away.

Carl feels like they're deeper than they've been. More experience back this year than they've had.

Green is going to play opposite Ciante Evans. You'll see Blatchford at nickel, Ciante at Nickel. Dijon Washington will play. This early the competition continues and you'll see a lot of guys.

PJ Smith is a better open-field tackler this year. He's always been good against the pass. He was given that message coming out of Spring, and as of right now coming out of camp he's made vast improvement and that will open lots of opportunity for him to play.

Carl is scared to death about what he'll see five days before the opener, as he always is. If they just focus in on the opponent they'll be fine.

Ankrah is going to start opposite Camstache. Williams has had a great camp and has taken a definite step ahead. He's comfortable with his size. Williams is the first guy off the bench on both sides. EMart and Carter both "have a role."

Carl is a worrier. He's talking a lot about what happens "if." Eventually you have to cut the umbilical and throw them out there. The jitters go away as soon as you get into your job.

Ankrah has risen to the top of the chart because he's gotten real physical. Reminds Carl of Pierre Allen. Really physical and plays the run well, but still can rush the passer like a true pass rusher on 3rd down.

He could call Ankrah the starter, but the competition goes on. It's not who starts, it's how he wants to use the guys situationally. It's about fighting for snaps, not starts. It's all about how he envisions rotating. If they want to play in more situations they have to prove themselves capable of handling more situations.

We're going to use guys in different ways in the secondary, LB and on the line. We recruited different guys for different reasons and we're going to play to their strengths.

Bo is very involved much more with the offense - he's always been, but more so. Same goes for Tim, and Carl laughs about that because it's a little bit of justice because he has to answer to Bo too, now.

Carl says Jared is not a very good athlete (because he just showed up at the door).

Some guys can handle putting on weight, some guys can't. They have extensive talks with Dobson and the nutrition guys, you don't just put it on them.

Problems that Crick can present for an offense:

He plays good with his hands. He's tough on a Guard, and he's fast as hell out of his stance. Usually the Guards are bigger and not out of their stance as fast, and that's a problem for them. He's a good pass rusher and has a good motor. Plays with a speed you rarely see from the DL. Makes plays boundary to boundary and that's hard to account for for an offense.

When he first saw Crick, Carl told Bo during the second winter workout that Crick would be a good tackles. He has a good base, pad-level and flat back that a lot of guys can't get to. It wasn't long after they got here that Carl knew Crick would be good.

Carl isn't concerned at all about the new coaches. He's worked with them all year and he's sick of talking to them (laughs).

Change is good for you to grow, and he's happy with the changes that Raymond has brought. He's been good for everybody.

Andrew Green is really completely healthy for the first time, not fighting through injuries, and he just looks like an athlete now. He's very confident.

Jared Crick's comments from the presser:

Crick gained 30 lbs over the Spring into the Summer last year was a daunting task. It's pretty easy to gain 30 pounds the wrong way, so you have to do it the right way. He's now more comfortable with that weight and he's getting his speed back. It's worked out so far.

Crick thinks we can be better than we were the last two years because of more depth at every position. Some more than other.

Ankrah has come a long way, learning the game. You can be as strong as you want but you're worthless out there if you don't know what you're doing. He's going to be starting and he earned that.

They are anxious to go hit somebody. They want to get the bad taste out of their mouth. (hopefully that's about Washington)

Physically, as far as preparation, it's been the same as previous years. This year they've become more of a team than in previous years with BBQs. Camaraderie has intensified.

Skies the limit for the offense. They're getting better every day. IT's a great sign to see how much they've improved. But they have to execute on Saturday. You can be as good as you want Monday through Friday but if you don't get it done Saturday it's for nothing.

Taylor has come a long way, throwing the ball great, running and still fast. He's become more of a leader. As long as they stay healthy we have talent across the board. They just need to execute it and prove it on Saturday.

Crick isn't concerned this year worrying about living up to expectations this year as much as last year. He had a talk with JP around the OSU game last year and it really helped him. He just wants to go out and do his responsibility and it'll take care of itself.

There wasn't much of a decision to stay at Nebraska. Talked to his parents and coaches and he wanted to stay another year at Nebraska with coach Pelini and his guys. Just wanted another year under coach Pelini to make him better. He's not concerned about awards.

David is better. He knows exactly what he needs to do, knows all the calls, all the situations. He's already a playmaker. He knows where everybody is supposed to be on the defense already.

Carl's role is good now. He's happy with what he's doing, not just focusing on the line but getting to go out there with every position. JP is one of the best coaches in the country and that allows Carl to go out to work with the DBs and linebackers, which is what he wants to do.

Crick says he had to just have fun with the SI cover, not make things bigger than they are. These things aren't a big deal to him. Not hard to pay attention to what you're supposed to do if you do that. Does not believe in the jinx.

Rex Burkhead's comments from the presser:

That's it for Crick. Rex is next, but he has to get off to class in five minutes so it'll be short.

No pun intended about Rex and "being short."

Rex never thought he'd be called the old man of the team. Maybe because of his hairline and bald spot at 21. Stepping into Roy's role from the last few years has been a neat experience helping the new guys.

He learned a lot from Roy about doing whatever you can do to prepare yourself physically for a game.

Doesn't know how many carries he's going to get per game. Whatever Coach Beck has in store for him. Throwing passes is a possibility. He's up for it.

We're going to have an attacking, explosive offense. They're going to have fun.

The WR's are faster this year and we could have some long downfield passes. It's a possibility.

Rex can't point to any one of the three freshmen. They're all talented and they've all lived up to the hype.

He tells them to have fun and not get caught up in the hype of college games. Just have fun, enjoy it, make it worthwhile.

The three new guys are physically very developed with speed and agility, further along than Rex was. Picking the offense up quickly. They're going to be great players.

Caputo is a good leader on the line. The line is big, strong, physical and they're going to get after it.

Green hasn't come in with a big head based on his high school success. All three guys came in respectfully and ready to learn from the older guys.

Rex stays in touch with Roy via text. Talked about Roy's 100-yard game.

Execution, ball security is a main goal of this offense especially after last year.

All of the family in Texas is a little disappointed that Rex is no longer in the Big XII. But they've all gotten the BTN so they're OK.

Rex is done. Not sure who is up next. Having some connectivity problems on my end - slow here. Bear with me.

Brandon Kinnie's comments from the presser:

BK is up next. Should be another fun presser full of good quotes from BK.

The new offense is playing fast, having fun. That's all we're going to do this Saturday.

BK thinks we're a fast team - I guess you could say that. We're just going to play fast.

OK, so he's said "Play Fast" like ten times already.

Hard to hear him, and impossible to hear these questions.

BK says the new offense isn't so robotic-like. It's not like go here and stay there, it's more fun and easier to learn. Beck is a good guy. In some of the practices they've given them fits and that's a good thing giving them problems with the two brainiacs back there.

Success this season will be judged by competing every Saturday. Play fast, play with a chip on their shoulder.

They know they should have two Big XII Championships, but the past is the past.

As a WR you want to be detailed in your route-running so although there is some freedom, you have to be precise in what you're doing.

He said Ciante is GOOD, talking about missing Prince. Says Andrew Green is doing good last year too.

Jamal is an explosive guy. Getting detailed on things, learning things. Catches the ball really well for a QB.

Anxious more than anything. Bad taste losing that bowl game, everyone remembers that and they don't want to remember that ever again.

All the guys give him crap when he goes back to return kicks because he's so big. He's not sure if he'll be back there returning kicks, but he's OK if he's on the sidelines.

He's told the true Freshmen to relax when they play in front of 85,000 people. Just relax, know what you're doing and do it fast. And have fun.

He learned from the Texas game that you can't be down on yourself. He learned big-time from that game. You gotta forget what happened if it's bad, drop it and get over it.

They are priding on themselves on not having off-field problems like other schools. And nobody wants to face Coach Bo after something like that. They all take pride in wearing that N and being role models.
