PSU bootleg

PSU was hitting the bootleg pass pretty hard there with success. They got away from it as the game wore on. What exactly was it that caused this? I know earlier Ciante Evans was on Robinson then in the second half I beleive I saw SJB was covering him. Don't know if this was strategy or because Evans was dinged up. Regardless we slowed that play ....thankfully.

Adjustments?

N/M. We're not capable. Obviously O'Brian is just an idiot.

They actually did adjust to it. Every time they ran that play, the throw was to Robinson on a comeback route. They started jumping that route better and their QB couldn't really find anyone else to hit before the pursuit started getting to him.

That play only really hurt us when the QB ran in for a TD. I don't remember him completing many passes running that play. I honestly feel we didn't respect his running ability, which is why we didn't have a spy on him when he rolled out. He could have ran all day and he chose to pass. But what do I know about X's and O's. There is a reason football is the only sport I am not coaching

Did they run it more than once in the second half? Seems like they ran it 5-6 times in the first half and basically not at all in the second half.

I kept trying to see who the backside end was in the first half but he was always sucked down so far I couldn't find him.

They ran it in the first half to counter our over pursuing run defense on their stretch play. We adjusted, had our DE on that side stay home for the bootleg and started jumping that route. Hackinburg took a few shots and got picked off in the second half on that play.

Yup, we made adjustments and Hackenburg started forcing it. O'Brien had to go away from it. We also got a good hit on Hackenburg from behind once, he got up limping.

Yep. Hackle burg may be good down the road but he's pretty much a stare down guy right now. Once we started jumping the comeback that play was over. The only annoying thing is I felt like that adjustment could have been made sooner then it was. It seemed obvious what they were doing there.

Evans dinged his shoulder on that tackle on Zwinak in the first half, told the coaches he couldn't guard Robinson and handed him off to SJB.
