Pundits impressed by Pelini's showing

“Bo Pelini is the next Bob Stoops,” said Tony Barnhart, longtime college football writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “A guy who is fundamentally sound who has been around great coaches all his life, who knows what a championship football team is supposed to look like.

“The fact that he was able to come here and have that defense ready to play with all the things going on, I think speaks well to him and his ability to run an organization.”

Thats great and all...but I was having this conversation with my brother while watching their bowl game. Does anyone else think that Stoops is not that "next level" type of coach? He has his team in it virtually every year but they can never seem to win it. (except with John Blakes players) And PLEASE dont start drawing comparisons to T.O. he had his teams "in it" alot more then Stoops IMO.
Considering OU just won the Big 12 Championship and 4 teams in the Big 12 ended up in the top 10, I think that alone speaks volumes for Stoops coaching ability. There's only been 1 team (LSU) that has won the NC twice since the inception of the BCS according to the announcers via the NC game. I guess if you want to draw conclusions from NC games, you'd have to throw Tressell at Ohio State into the same mix saying he doesn't have it to win the big one as they have won just 1 out of 3 tries just like OU.

In the past 8 years, there's been few if any teams match OU's success. Considering last year he had to boot his "franchise" QB off the team and field a converted WR, he still won the Big 12. IMO, he's an outstanding coach. I guess some people's standards are different than mine.
