Punt return for TD?

I thought Peterson's punt return for TD was the first since Groce's 89 yarder in 02, but according to OWH, Adam Ickes did it in 04 against MU. Does anyone remember Icke's TD run?

In 2004, Adam Ickes returned one of two botched Missouri punts for a second-quarter touchdown to give NU the lead for good.

DeJuan Groce’s 89-yard punt return sparked Nebraska to victory in 2002. And in 2000, Bobby Newcombe returned a punt 94 yards for a score.

Yeah it was like 14 yards. Something short. I think it was blocked and he picked it up and rumbled the rest of the way.

It was blocked, he must have caught it before it hit the ground and taken it he rest of the way. Technically, it would count as a punt return for a touchdown.

I know I have been hard on Swift returning punt returns, however, I will shut up from now on.

Nate really risked himself catching that ball instead of fair catching it. I don't know what was going through his mind, but I think I have a good idea. He was thinking his team needed a spark to get back into the game and running back a punt for a touchdown would be that spark.

Great blocking. Great run. Made for a very exciting ending. It really provided some enthusiasm at my house!

I thought the ONLY kick-off or punt return for a TD in the Callahan era was Grixby's last year. I seem to remember it being mentioned numerous times that it had not happened. Then it happened.

The ball can hit the gound and be returned & considered a return. Come on fellas. Y'all know that. That's day 1 stuff. ;)

But this wasnt a traditional return (meaning punt returner fielded it).

We've already had two big special team plays this year. IN four games. That's remarkable! How's Missouri's special teams??? We could have a major effect on this game if we're able to get a few punt or kickoff returns for TD's.

That was a kick return. :thumbs

EDIT: Sorry Dan, somehow I read that and completely ignored the "kick-off or" at the beginning.

Ikes had a great game that day too. I don't care what you call it really. I call it amazing effort and we didn't see that from all of them.

In a game like this on Saturday night, it is good to see that we're doing so well in special teams. In any big game, you know that'll be a factor.
