Former Nebraska wide receiver Maurice Purify signed a two-year contract with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday.
Purify, a 6-foot-3, 224-pounder participated in Cincinnati’s rookie minicamp last week on a tryout basis. He caught 57 passes in 2007 and led the Huskers with 814 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
He joins an NFL team that has gained a reputation for a litany of player arrests and suspensions.

Since Jan. 1, 2006, nine Bengals players have been arrested — including wide receiver Chris Henry five different times — and two players were suspended by the league.
In the past year, Purify has had his own legal troubles.
He was placed on a year’s probation in Lancaster County Court in July 2007 after being convicted of assault, disturbing the peace and hindering arrest in May and for DUI in June.
Purify was ticketed March 8 on suspicion of being an inmate of a disorderly house after police were called to a loud party in the 3100 block of Mickaela Lane.
On Tuesday, Lancaster County prosecutors filed a probation revocation motion based on an allegation that Purify had used alcohol in California against a probation order.
The ticket from the March party and the motion to revoke Purify’s probation will be taken up at a May 20 hearing in Lancaster County Court.
