QB 40 times

Frazier was also big and pretty elusive, and a master at the option offense. Didn't hurt having guys like Stai, Zatechka and Wiegert on the O-line and a back-up like Berringer either. If JD would have gone down last year it would have been really, really scary.

Well, said.
Agreed, it also didnt hurt that he was surrounded by great coaches.

Who cares how our QB's can run. How well do they pass!!!!!!! I do not expect our QB's to run at all this year. That is what chechdowns to our RB's are for.

It's more about the player though. Look at Crouch, he was surrounded by some pretty bad coaches and he still won a Heisman.

Actually J.D. showed to be a very good runner his freshman year with the old offense. But because of the WCO and the fact that Callahan wanted him to be careful so he didn't get injured -- we had no QBs behind him -- Daily was hesitant.

JD rushed 33 times for 122 yards and was 9-14 passing with 2 TD's and 2 INT's in 2003. Most of these stats were picked up late in games. I don't think he was on the field enough to say he was a very good or very bad runner or passer. However, I think he would have been and still would be more comfortable in the old offense than he is now, and I really respect the competitiveness he's shown this spring. If he's our starter again I hope he's improved as much as the sports writers and coaches lead to believe he has.

I think the fact he rode the bench with Lord starting and hardly ever getting into a game indicates he was not ready to run the option offense. He is a gamer, but I do not think his ability is that of a top tier Division 1 team. Frank knew he had no one other than Joe the following year. He saw what happened with over playing Crouch and just how far behind Lord was with no playing time. There was a reason in my mind. I think they felt he was to fragile to run the offense and wanted to make some changes before they threw him to the wolves. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened as he was there was last year. I am pulling for him to make the grade, but just do not see it happening.

It's a valid point IMO. He did have some good coaches if you look back at it.

This stat means nothing. Frazier had that something extra that only a few players have. I think even if we were still running the option Dailey would be average at best. You knew watching Frazier his Freshman year he was special. People hated Lord so much that they wanted Dailey to be special. Who knows though Dailey could come out this year and be good.

That is the sad thing about Lord, he was a pretty dang good "option" QB, he just didn't have the talent around him like Tommy, Frost or Crouch had. It's too bad for him that he didn't.
