QB Kyle Parker staying @ Clemson

Kyle Parker looks to be returning as the starting quarterback at Clemson after negotiations with the Colorado Rockies broke down on Tuesday night.
Parker, who threw 20 touchdowns as a freshman last season, was a first-round pick in the MLB draft last month and had been in serious discussions with the team.

The news was a relief to Tigers coach Dabo Swinney, who would have turned to redshirt freshman Tajh Boyd if Parker had done the expected and signed a baseball-only contract as an outfielder with Colorado.

"We can move on and people can have some closure on it," Swinney

"People have been working extremely hard all summer, we've had excellent leadership, I think they've been focused. Outside looking in we've had an excellent summer and I don't want to let this overshadow that in any regard."

It is still possible for Parker change his mind. While he set a deadline of yesterday to reach a deal, Parker officially has until Aug. 15 to make a decision. It is possible the team could meet his demands – reportedly a $3 million signing bonus - and leave Clemson.

The other likely scenario is that he would agree only to a deal that allows him to play professional baseball in the summer and college football in the fall.

This kid is in a little different position than Bubba will be. Parker turns it down this year and there is a VERY high likelyhood it will be there next year. Just in case, he'll have a monster insurance policy to help him sleep at night. IF Bubba turns down $1+ million - he has to wait 3 years to find out if he has another chance at the $$ again. VERY different scenarios IMO. One is a proven comodity, the other is a "prospect". One has to wait 8 months to resign, the other 36 months.

And, Bubba is not exactly walking back into a starting job. Then, he hasn't been drafted in the first round either.

no. college baseball players cannot be drafted by MLB until after their third year on campus.
You are right. I coach soccer at a juco and a lot of the players that are here get drafted after their first year so I was going to call you a liar haha. I looked it up and the rules are different for jucos. That is how Bryce Harper ducked the rule as well. :cheers
