Question for the board

Five-Star Recruit
I want to state up front that i am not flaming or making any unreasonable claims.

I want others opinions on the following just to see if i am in the ballpark or completely irrational.

1. Does our offense not give away the nature of the play simply by the personnel that is in the game. It looks to me like we are still running with certain guys in the game and throwing when a different group is in the game.

2. I realize that teams use more than 2 WR throughout a game, but having watched a ton of football in the last 2 weeks i dont see teams using 10. Isnt there something said about keeping certain people on the field since they are your best players. It has been said on here that the coaches put the best people on the field, which i agree with for the most part but if that is the case then why does purify play about every 3rd or 4th play. He is clearly our best WR. How come we cant leave him on the field. He needs 10-15 balls thrown his way each game. I do not get the whole WR rotation at all.

3. The LB i have a similar question about. If we have the best people on the field to start the game (and i am not saying we do or dont) then why all the rotation. I watched LSU the other night and they certainly did not rotate 5-6 linebackers in the game. It is almost as if we realize that we are not starting the best so we rotate the others in. Now i am not saying play them every snap but why do we have a regular rotation. If the best players start then let them play.

4. WR one last question about them. I dont see practice and dont have any inside info but i have eyes and those eyes tell me that our WR are adequate at best. Now i believe that in most cases experience is a key factor but not with our WR. Clearly our youngsters have more upside so what would be the harm with getting them in the game I thought Andre Ware sucked as a commentator but he did say something very profound. On Kellers pick, Swift was running a stop route. the CB jumped it and picked the ball off. The reason is that the CB never bit on the play. The stop route requires the WR to drive the CB back until he turns to run and then the WR stops and comes back to the ball. As Ware stated, the CB never bit because he was not afraid of Swift's speed. Starting a Frosh lineman or QB would not be wise generally but at WR i just dont see how it can hurt anything. A drop is a drop is a drop irregardless of what grade the person dropping it is in.

These are a few of my observation/questions. I am very interested in your takes cuz i may be way off base

1. no matter who lines up, it is about executing the play. film and past games tell most teams what is coming. shift and formation changes can sometimes disguise what is eminent, but sometimes, in our case, it confuses our own offense as much as it does the opposing defense.

2. the excessive heat at WF may have precipitated the rotations more than normal, we'll see if the trend continues.

3. see answer to question #2. although in this case i think Cos may be making some situational substitutions, nothing wrong with that.

4. look, this has been answered before. our experienced WRs are just not very good and the new kids have not learned the schemes yet, so we take/play with what we have, giving us the best chance for success.

if there is one thing (2) that this team seriously lacks, it is WRs and DBs.

Yeah, as to the WR's, there is more to the position than just speed. Experience counts for a lot, like knowing when and where to sit in a zone, moving to get open after the QB is flushed from the pocket and has to throw on the run, etc. Things like that take time to learn, just like it takes time to learn to be a complete back (pass blocking, wheels and outlets, etc).

hey Travis...

For most of your questions, at least regarding the WF game...fatigue HAD to be an issue...I wasn't there, but it just sounded brutal, with the temps and humidity...that said...

That is my copout...I know this happens quite a bit under 'normal' situations, and Wake couldn't be that much more conditioned than Nebraska was...the weather in Lincoln isn't that unsimilar in August than it is from North Carolina.

I know what you're saying about personnel...It was the same thing with Glenn last year in short yardage situations, and this year it is Castille...in that regard, it is predictable in short-yardage situations, so I'll give you that in that capacity.

However, for everything else, I can't buy into it...the reason? Well, Tom Osborne always had the luxury of rotating in reserves regularly after halftime. This day and age, especially in the Big 12, parity, blah blah blah, it's very hard to do. Although it isn't always visible, Callahan is trying to rectify this on a regular basis, us fans just don't always know it. Last Saturday, we knew...otherwise, NU may not have won the game.

Thank you, Sean Hill, #86, TE...Husker. You are my man. :woo
