While I totally agree with both statements...is this class going to finish "right around" where Bo's class average was? I keep hoping and thinking they can squeak into that top 20 range, but, can they?

I'm excited once again about recruiting. Callahan was the last HC here at Nebraska that was able to excel at recruiting.
It's nice to see this class come together. Still a lot of work, but this has the makings of one of our better " ranked" classes in a while. 2017 looks even better. GBR!

Not counting Bo's 1st/transition class, he averaged 29th in recruiting (according the 247 composite).
2009 - 42
2010 - 27
2011 - 16
2012 - 30
2013 - 22
2014 - 36
We currently sit at 22, and I believe the our class this year will beat all but his 2011 class in terms of rankings.

Yup, this staff really seems to be pounding the pavement in recruiting. It is a bit disconcerting that the top 2 players in state aren't commits, but it could just be a fluke. Either way, It's definitely a more sound approach than the January flurry of the last staff.

With a class size expecting to be over 25, we should easily crack top 20. I will admit I am drinking the KoolAid, and even with all of the changes, I have reasons to expect a CCG appearance. If we can do that and win a bowl game, that's a ton of momentum to land/flip some highly sought after talent heading into signing day to get us into Top15-10. There is a lot of upside to this team to accomplish their goals. We start winning, the recruits will start coming, and those local kids will wish they were on board.
The easiest recruiting tool is winning. Everyone wants to play for a winner.
This staff appears to be light years ahead in regards to the use of social media and how it can positively impact recruiting. You start to when the game you should, win one that you shouldn't and quit getting your a$$ kicked on national tv, recruits will take notice. IMO, this is the most important thing we can do.
For those not from the south, I can assure you that Lincoln is not the armpit the previous staff made it out to be when they talked about hard it was to "recruit here". Clemson, Tuscaloosa, Starkville etc are not exactly the epicenter of social activities. Just saying. Bo getting embarrassed yearly on National TV hurt us more than anything Lincoln "doesn't have".

I am extremely excited about recruiting and this staff. They just seem to connect with both fans, players and parents.
What really leaves me scratching my head are Bubak, Fant and (to a lesser extent) Kelly. Those three baffle me.
That said, I think this staff can go out and get players just as good to come here to fill those spots.

The two in state kids weren't exactly 'can't miss' prospects. They were good athletes, but I'm not a big fan of taking in state kids just for the sake of doing it.

Eh, they're the top 2 kids in state, and are being targeted by other Power 5 schools. They aren't scrubs.
There definitely seems to be more energy - for sure more publicity. And I like what we've done so far. I think we've grabbed some good prospects and hit some areas of need.
But I'm not ready to do cartwheels yet. We'll see how this class turns out - and we won't really know either way for a few years. But we're apparently having trouble keeping the local kids. Extremely small sample size but this is an absolute must. Even Riley has said that. Bubak might not be the best in the country, but he's set to play a position (TE) that has very little competition on the current roster in a scheme that is well-publicized for being TE-friendly. It's too bad that he thinks he'll be better used somewhere else.
And, for all the excitement about the recruits we're getting - much of it deserved - two of our top three commits (out of 12 total) were committed to the previous staff. So all we can really say so far is that the results are very similar to what we've been getting. And, as Red Five pointed out, we've averaged upper 20s under Pelini. Throw out the first class and it's more mid-20s. Low-20s is better (if we end up there) but marginal. If we're under 20, that will be a great improvement.
If we can find some linemen to fill out this class, it will be a good one. The only linemen - either side of the ball - this staff has secured so far is the third-best player in Nebraska (Stille) and there doesn't seem to be a lot of traction on either side. Hopefully there are some guys who have been quiet so far but will visit for a game this fall and jump on board.
