Recruits

We will probably hear some type of excuse from the apologists. That is their biggest boast about Callahan.....his recruiting. At some point he has to answer to the results which are not better in the last 3 years. If his recruits are so great...Why aren't they on the field and performing?

Answer: Coaches

I don't know how you can say the reason they're not on the field performing is all due to coaches. There are a lot of recruits that simply don't pan out. Randy Stella and David Horne come to mind. I agree that the recruits have been overly hyped. I'm guessing that the reason they're not on the field is because they're not as good as the leftover Solich recruits. If these hyped up recruits were worth their salt, I have no doubt in my mind that they would be in the game playing. However, just look at the heralded class BC brought in from a few years ago. They ranked high, but the reason they ranked high was because of a few select players that aren't even on the team anymore.
Well, since we fired Solich for leaving the program with no talent why are his recruits better than Callahan's? Also, Coaches make players better from High School to College. They don't just get better on their own.

Players not getting better: Coaches fault

Players overhyped: Poor scouting by coaches

Players leaving: Coaches fault

Coaching in at least 80% of player development. How else do they learn and get better?????????
Do you really believe the sh*t that comes out of your mouth?

I once observed a boss that trusted no one until the "proved" themselves over and over again on small jobs; small projects. Finally, after many years, they would get a big project and from that point on, they could do no wrong (in this bosses opinion).

I believe the BC is a lot like that. You have to show him in practice over and over again. Then, you might get to play, but only when a "regular" is injured, too tired or the game is very, very safely in the Win column.

During spring and fall practice we kept hearing about Helo, Prince, Blue and others. Coaches praised their speed, hitting ability, etc. I believe the only way these promising people will ever see any meaningful play time is if BC is FORCED to bring them in. The only reason Quintin got some playing time is because Cody was injured. If Glenn was healthy, we would never or only rarely see Quintin this year.

Thats just the way BC is.

Amazing...are you serious?!?

It's definitely open season on the Huskers for miserable beat writers.
How can you argue with anything he wrote? We have lots of young talent that would probably be playing at other schools, but they're sitting on our bench.
The guy took one comment from a recruit and twisted it into an article. It's mostly BS.

He doesn't count anyone who hasn't started in 3 or less games. That mostly discounts the new starters this year.

I'd like to know exactly how Nebraska wants or down right causes hype. Tell me how they control sites like Rivals, Scout, etc. Deny them press passes? WTH?

I don't really understand why he discounts Juco players. They are brought in to start ahead of HS players because they are supposed to be more mature and ready to play. Haven't they done that? He doesn't mention it because it doesn't fit his article. Doesn't make it less true.

He uses O'Dowd as an example of young starters, yet there's no way he starts in the guy ahead of him wasn't injured. That's BS. This alone should be more than enough to say this article is nothing more than a shot at a program that's prime for shots this week by miserable beat writers.

The idea that "Hey, they're new. Let's play them and everything will be better!" is flawed. I am not saying that these kids aren't athletic I am saying that the grass isn't always greener. However, some Husker fans apparently need to see the grass on the other side in order to know that. Whether that means watching a freshman DB get torched for a game changing touchdown or a freshman RB fumble at the most in opportune time. In big games, you go with your most experienced guys. I don't see how anyone can really fault that idea.

If you can't fault that then where's the argument? Castille got 18 carries in the season opener. Didn't Lucky AND Glenn play as freshmen? Barry Turner? Terrence Nunn? The countless Juco recruits that stepped in early?
