Omaha, NE - University of Nebraska Regent Randy Ferlic thinks Husker fans need to back off the calls for changes in the Husker athletic department. Since Saturday's 45-14 loss to Oklahoma State, fans are demanding change. Ferlic calls it a "lynch mob mentality", and says it's a knee-jerk reaction that isn't fair to the students. "We may not win any more football games here on out in the season, but to do something tomorrow or next week in my mind would be precipitous," says Ferlic.

Ferlic tells Action 3 News, "I think the fact that the fans walked out at half-time shows a certain amount of disrespect for all those students playing for our team."

He says if Athletic Director Steve Peterson, Chancellor Harvey Perlman or Coach Bill Callahan decided to make staff changes, he's accept the changes if they came with a good explanation.

Someone needs to point out to him half the 97 Husker football team walked out at half time with the fans to according to the OWH.

He's probably just pissed because maybe he was one of the loudest who was calling for Solich to get canned before season's end, and now he can see how that turned out? Pud's a tool, but IMO the Board of Regents are just as much responsible for this dibacle as Pud!

Uh, Mr. Ferlic? Those fans who walked out early were sending a message to YOU AND YOUR FELLOW REGENTS.

Now do something about it.

Ferlic + $$ = :asshat

Ferlic is worried no one will pay good money to see the team play anymore.... maybe he's right?

the fans were making more of a statement than the whole team was. :rollin

This thread title is misleading. It's not his assessment of the probable success or failure of the rest of the season; he's saying, "even if worst comes to worst, knee-jerk reactions or inappropriate."

Do you guys disagree?

Thank god you're not managing any football team.

That was the title of the article. Take it up with the writer.

Okay, my apologies. But the point still stands: The article title is misleading, and does anyone really think knee-jerk reactions are appropriate?

Hmmmmmm,

Regent is an elected position correct?

Maybe Mr. Ferlic sees the axe coming his way in the next election. I wonder if he will call it a knee jerk reaction then?

i'd say about 90% of this board's posters are big believers in knee-jerk reactions.

and that is not a statement on my feelings about pederson or callahan.

Does anyone think this is a knee jerk reaction? I dont. ANd look at it this way, if you need to remove both a coach and the AD, you better get rid of the AD before you get rid of the coach. Someone needs to hire the coach after all. And all AD's want 'their guy'.

As to the players comment, there can be an argument made that they are disrespecting the fans and the tradition of the program with the lack of effort displayed on the field of play.

I would call this the last straw, not a knee-jerk. Come on, the stats don't lie people. Even Frank never did this bad.

Why not move on to the biggest fish in the sea?
