I have played the scenario over and over in my head. Like one of those movies you watch where the coach stands up on a table in the locker room or in the aisle of a bus or plane.
His opening statements so strong that it leaves that lump in your throat as you fight back your emotions. Expressing his pride and admiration for sacrifices made throughout the year.
And from behind the coach comes the staff; standing with bundles of shirts draped over their arms.
And then he speaks.
"Today, we are going to show the nation that the heart of this team is very much alive. We are going to silence the critics and regain the national recognition which once embodied this university. Today, gentlemen, we are going to RESTORE THE ORDER!"
An erruption of cheering, whistling, and applause immediately follows.
Amongst the chanting of "Go Big Red" Cory Ross rises from his seat.
Pans around to all of his teammates making eye contact with each. The Senior, doing what all great leaders have done, leads his teammates in prayer....
"Dear Lord, the battles we go through life,
We ask for a chance that's fair.
A chance to equal our stride,
A chance to do or dare.
If we should win, let it be by the code,
Faith and Honor held high.
If we should lose, we'll stand by the road
And cheer as the winners go by...
Day by Day, we get better and better!
Til' we can't be beat...WON'T BE BEAT!"
And then the deafening chant resumes, this time to a different tune.
"RESTORE THE ORDER...RESTORE THE ORDER...RESTORE THE ORDER!!!"
(This is only my vision of how I would see it unfolding. If anyone knows a player or someone else that might know the real chain of events, it would be well worth the read.)
