Revenue Split

Special Teams Player
If 8 teams leave the conference given a 2-year notice they will feed 33% of all conference revenue (roughly) per year into the remaining 4 teams based on the contractual basis for leaving the conference. This could mean over 13 Million for KU/KSU/ISU/CU extra for 2 years. 26 Million in essence is 4 years worth of their television revenue, so they would not be bad off in terms of a change in income until at least 2015 at the earliest.

This may be a stupid questions, but if the doomsday scenario plays out and the Big 12 is literally abandoned by everyone, where is this supposed money going? The payout penalties, I mean.

I could be wrong, but I think for the conference to remain viable there has to be atleast 6 members, thus if 8 teams leave nobody owes anybody anything and it just ceases to exist.

The NCAA requires a conference to have 6 teams which have played together for at least 5 years. The 8 team thing (I think) is for the TV contract.

i believe that if 9 teams leave then the big12 is done and there are no payouts...
It takes a 9 team majority in the Big12 to change the bylaws, I believe if there are less than 6 teams the conference ceases to exist, thus no one owes anything. Some more dirt in the face of those arleady grabbing our ankles.

No way Texass gives up anything...that's part of the reason they are painting Nebraska and Missouri as the bad guys. If we leave they just say the conference is destroyed and all parties will walk away.

I still don't understand why we or any other teams want to leave the conference, could somebody please enlighten me?

Just go to the conference expansion sub forum and pick a random topic. You have a good chance at seeing all the reasons listed...
