Rhule to Penn State?

I posted this in the other thread, but their fans sure don't seem to like the idea...

And why would they. Rhule has never won at a high sustained level at a P4 job. Which is what Penn State wants. Rhule has only built up programs long enough to leave for a higher level.

It’s one thing to show you can build a program to a top 25 level and as we know it’s a totality other thing to win at a sustained Top 10 level and beat Top 10 teams. Which if you fire Franklin, not sure how Rhule is any surer bet to do it than who ya just canned at gave $50 mil to

There is only one name who meets the criteria of their delusional cult of a fan base and he's an analyst on Fox

I posted the following in the Penn St. preview game thread, but will share it here as well.

As of today, 10/12/2025, hiring Rhule doesn't make much sense to me if you're Penn St.

People are going to point to the last three Penn St. losses as why Franklin was fired, but that was really just a catalyst. The "Franklin can't win big games" mantra has been around for several seasons now and that's what ultimately doomed him. He was 4-21 against the AP Top 10 and 17-26 against ranked teams. You can't fire a guy like that and then go and hire the guy who is 2-23 all time against ranked teams, even if Rhule might be a bit more affordable. Remove the fact he's a former grad and is Matt Rhule even in the discussion? Probably not. I don't think most PSU fans or boosters would be impressed if Rhule was hired there.

One thing that might alter this is if Rhule somehow goes 10-2 or 11-1 and were to make the CFP. But even then... PSU is going to be an attractive position to a lot of very qualified head coaching candidates both in college and the NFL.

Urban Meyer is the only coach that has better numbers than Franklin already has other than coaches at top programs that aren't leaving for PSU. This seems like a stupid move by PSU.

Whoever the next PSU coach is better have a gigantic buyout because they aren't lasting more than 3 years.

Flight tracker as a plane leaving from Lincoln to State College today.

Also, I would be fine with them taking Rhule...Dannon Yogurt could go out and hire a winner, this "program builder" stuff is not a thing anymore.
