Rich Rodriguez to 'Bama

Seems Rich Rodrquez from WVU is getting a lot of attention as the #1 candidate for the 'Bama job.

What I found interesting while doing some reading is RR, despite his successes at WVU, isn't totally convinced the University is as committed to the football program as he would like to see it and isn't sure they're willing make a bigger committment. So I'm wondering if RR's discussion with Bama is a sincere interest in the Bama HC job or is this his way of putting WV on notice that if there isn't a stronger committment for football at WVU he'll have no problem going somewhere else.

And I agree. He seems to love it there and so does his wife.

It just seems odd when you think about when last year rumors were floating around Weiss was going to back to the Pro's as a HC then BAM! He gets a huge contract. This year Spurrier is rumored to be the next HC at Bama then BAM! He's given a raise and a contract extension. I'm wondering if RR isn't trying to do the same thing.

I don't know how this info is gathered or how accurate it seems to be but this interesting to say the least:

Football Rumor Mill

For a couple of days now we have been hearing there is a mystery candidate at Alabama. That candidate has been unmasked as Rutgers' Greg Schiano. Although Nick Saban would like to take the job, he feels his image would be too badly damaged to make the move. Alabama officials are still wooing him, but insiders expect he will ultimately not jump from the Dolphins. That said, expect a deal with Schiano to be done by week's end. Rich Rodriguez is the fallback candidate should the Schiano deal fall through. Behind him is Arkansas' Houston Nutt, though Bama officials do not expect to get that far down their list.

That would kind of make Schiano look like an a$$ since he just said he wanted to stay at Rutgers when he declined Miami's offer.

Not so much an a$$ for saying he wasn't interested in Miami but an a$$ because he said he wanted to stay at Rutgers.

Now a new twist to this is it's being reported on message forums Miami is formally asking WVU to speak to Rodriguez.

Rumors are starting to circulate pretty heavily on Bama and WVU boards that Bama and Rodriguez have finalized a 7yr deal worth $21 million. Reportedly, Rodriguez has called all his coaches back from recruiting trips and Moore (Bama AD) cancelled a trip to South Bend to watch the Tide B-Ball game against ND.

Yeah and Rodriguez "only" makes $1 million right now with WV, so that would be a huge pay raise. I think it's funny because a couple of weeks ago Rodriguez said he wasn't leaving in a long rant on a radio station there, and now the deal is finalized. Interesting stuff happening over there.

I dont know why Rodrigues would wan to leave WVU. It is a shorter path to a BCS game and a NC than at Bama. Other than to bolster his contract and facilities there wouldnt be any reason.

Bama wont be happy until they can find a way to bring Bryant back from the dead. 12 years, 5 coaches, No thank you.

RRod has said he doesn't want to leave and would stay as long as WVU would have him (paraphrased). But in the same breath he said he would leave if he felt it was something he had to do (again, paraphrasing). Him and his wife both love WVU and the fans love them.

I think if WVU is true in their statement that they'll put the money into the upgrades RRod would like, I can see him turning down Bama. If he takes the Bama job it'll be a huge surprise.
