The thing that sticks out about that preseason poll is that there is no team from a non BCS conference on it, besides Notre Dame. These polls make it almost impossible for the Boise States and Utahs to have a shot at the National Title because they belittle them from the very beginning and give them too much of an up hill battle to overcome.

Boise loses the QB, so that will make them drop, and no one else from outside the BCS who was good this year returns thier star players. It isnt a slight, well, maybe to hawaii, but just there isnt any on-BCS teams that look good right now to make huge runs.

Boise State isn't a top 25 team. :WTH

I saw the game. I think it's bullshite.

That team has more heart and determination then I've seen in a long time.

Give em' a chance. :boxosoap

How legitimate is this nationalchamps.com. Its great to see us that high in preseason when we haven't even seen Keller play in our offense. I know he is damn good, but I think he will have to prove himself as well as the rest of our team and coaches. I have no problem with any of our coaches, it will just be up to them to make adjustments as next season goes on. I dont think it will take long for us to move up to the top ten if we play up to our potential. As for BSU and Rutgers, I think they may be decent , but they will have to get their teams built up again to have another disappointing end of season going 13-0 again as long as we have the BCS system.

Get Ohio St. out of there. PLaymakers are gone to pros.

Move West Virginia way up. Louisville loses their head coach and Rutgers will bgo back to blowing. very bad........very, very, very bad!!!!

I would have thought that this poll was done by ESPN, considering that they have Michigan and Ohio st so high! If it was up to them they would have had a Mich-Ohio st rematch and nobody would have been able to see how much better Florida and USC are. The big 10 is so overated it makes me sick!

Well then, is the SEC overrated as most seem to suggest?

That's true but to go from finishing the season ranked 5th to not even being considered for a Top 25 ranking the following year is a substantial drop.

I don't see why people are saying that Boise State and Rutgers will drop that far. Boise will return Ian Johnson, who I believe had the most touchdowns in NCAA this year, back. Plus many other players that stepped up for them this year.

Rutgers will be returning Ray Rice and their quarterback and I believe two of their top three recievers. Plus, Schiano has been bringing in some better talent the past couple of years to infuse with his older players.

Pre-season ranking are *about* the dumbest thing ever. Take away pre-season rankings and who did OSU really beat to earn their constant rank of #1 until being destroyed? I think that Boise State could have taken them on with a decent chance of success. They beat a No. 2 (preseason) texas team, an iowa team with an inflated rank... Penn State did okay, I guess, in that they didn't lose to Kansas State. Michigan? Pwnd by USC. The big conferences are given WAY too much credit for being in conferences that have traditionally been good before the scholarship limits. So we have these Used-to-be great teams that keep playing each other and seem great relative to one-another, but bring in some little unknowns and suddenly saying that Michigan and OSU are powerhouses because they play a game w/in 3 points is just ridiculous. We get an athletic incest in that teams judge their performance relative to other teams in the conference. The schedule's toughness is determined by previously held beliefs about the quality of a conference. This season we learned that just because a perceived powerhouse smacks around another perceived powerhouse does not a powerhouse make. College football ain't what it used to be and nobody has any idea how to rank teams or predict performance it seems, because the old reliable Nebklahohioda State teams just aren't keeping up with the invisible competition coming from the smaller schools.

I don't put much into polls even during the season. I hope that we are that good next year obviously because that would be a step in the right direction. :thumbs

Great post! I couldn't have said it better myself. It's so obvious that the landscape of college football has changed, and the current system has to change with it. The fact that the two teams that play for the NC are arbitrarily decided has gone from weird to down right embarrasing! Do you realize that Florida almost didn't get a chance to play for the championship! If Michigan gets their rematch than everyone would still be singing praises about the Big 10 no matter who won, instead we got to see both of those heralded programs get crushed. Enough is enough, lets get this thing settled on the field and the so called "mid major" teams have proven on the field that they can play with the big boys why shouldn't they be given the opportunity.
