Mike Riley arrived at Nebraska in late 2014 with a blueprint for how he wanted to improve the Husker football program.
Since that time, he has crumpled up much of the plan and tossed it into the proverbial waste bin.
"It does feel, in a sense, like starting over," Riley said recently.
Consider: Only one original member of Nebraska's 2015 defensive staff remains.
Meanwhile, Bob Diaco, since his arrival in January, has taken Lincoln by storm, a 44-year-old bundle of energy with a cocksure nature that seems to appeal to his players. They seem to have bought in to the new defensive coordinator's 3-4 scheme — which differs significantly from Mark Banker's 4-3 system.
However, some Nebraska fans cringe when they hear Riley say "starting over," mindful of the Huskers' unsightly 17-year stretch without a conference championship.
How much longer will the drought last?
