Ripping the Bandage

I've seen several mentions of "just ripping off the bandage", which seems to mean going with younger guys with future and potential big upsides.

While I'm kind of stunned at today's loss, and I acknowledge I'm a sunshine pumper, here is what I think is happening. And since the contract is in place and there is no way in heck that Riley gets the axe after his first year, I'm willing (and have no real choice) to give Riley the benefit of the doubt.

I think he knew the "starters" coming out of Fall camp were starters simply based on seniority, starting time last year, and game experience. Not based on potential. I also think starting many of these players (Lewis) is some transitional appeasement to players that were loyal to Bo to some extent. I think he is probably wise enough to not come in and trash talk the last set of coaches. I also give him benefit of the doubt the he realized putting the current starters on the field gave us the best chance of success, while the future players got another 4 -5 weeks of practice and started seeing playing time. Last week, due to injuries, we saw a lot of young, young talent on the field..playing with a decent amount of fire and making mistakes of inexperience.

Riley is going to run his offense, that is quite clear. I am going to predict we will be lucky to hit .500 this year, but every game will be contested. An the starting squad by year's end will be significantly different than opening game. While ripping off the bandage from game one might seem like the thing to do, pulling it off slowly makes it a bit more palatable for the fan base.

Either Riley does have a plan and is acting in an experienced manner with the big rebuild picture in mind, or he sucks. Get back to me at the end of this season and I'll be able to tell you more.

Either way, it is much too early for the-sock-puppet to start any new "new coach" threads.....but if it comes to that, I'll probably miss many hours of work again trying to keep up with the thread.

Losing sucks. Patience is a wonderful thing until you actually need it, then it sucks too.

I just find it much more fun and less stressful to believe the MR has a plan and is going about it methodically rather than get agitated about something over which I have no control or input.

Nah.

9 wins are built into our schedule.

Quite frankly, this staff has no clue,, as they displayed in Corvallis.

Stupid is as stupid does.

If we're being honest, you or I would have won that game today.

That was a disgrace.

#TeamMike. God forbid we give them some time. Only the 2nd road game I bet they barely have it figured out on what they want their routine to be.

Its a .536 collegiate average and a mediocre mindset he bought to Lincoln......

He's been coaching with the majority of his staff for over a decade....I hope they figured out a routine by now

I don't care what Riley's "plan" is -- yesterday was the worst display of coaching that I have seen in my 30+ years as a football fan. It was embarrassing, it was brutal, it was borderline laughable. There was no excuse to lose that game yesterday -- NONE. Forget Mr. Nice Guy; bring in a coach who can return us to where we belong!

Dang I wish I hadn't started this thread. Too many people like GOAT and LoCountry saying things I am trying to ignore a little longer. Yesterday was a very ugly, embarrassing performance.
