Risk vs. Reward - Abdullah Punt Blocking

If your the coach, do you put your starting Running Back on the special teams unit?

Not only is Abdullah our starting RB, he's a big piece of the heart and soul of this team. He's being mentioned in every Heisman conversation and being considered one of the best, if not the best, all around running back in the college game today.

What are we risking with this choice? Would the team be fine without Abdullah? Does that change the offense immensely? How much pressure would an Abdullah injury put on our young starting QB? What would fans reaction be to Bo Pelini if Ameer Abdullah goes down with an injury while trying to block a punt?

What is the reward? Is there any? Is Abdullah doing anything out there at simply no other player on this roster could be doing? Is it selfish of Abdullah to ask for this duty, or would it be selfish of him not to?

Me, if I'm the coach, Ameer doesn't participate in special teams. It just seems like an awful lot of risk and minimal reward. It sounds like something Ameer really wants to do and believes he should do, what say you smart folks?

His choice to be on special teams. Why not? Gurly of Georgia on special teams as a return man. Ameer can get hurt as well running the ball, a risk each time he gets the rock. I have no problem with it.
