Team HuskerBoard
Okay, its time for a review of what is and what isn’t appropriate in a topic of discussion – and since some of you have proven that you cant operate without a constant reminder – PLEASE READ THE PREVIOUS THREAD CLOSELY: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.ph...?showtopic=2390
Although it has only been a small outbreak, I realize it still doesnt create a very appealing environment, and no matter how small, it is not acceptable - so please recognize that if these outrages continue our Mods will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to keep our general discussion forums an inviting place to spend time. I assure you all of that.
-Again let me remind everyone that our MODS are VOLUNTEERS, and provide the absolute best level of service possible with the time they have, to help keep the best FREE Husker discussion forum clean and inviting to all opinions.
-As a result of this, and the unbalanced ratio of members to mods that we have (90:1) - they can not be everywhere at all times.
-As a result, there will be times when a post is off-topic or in violation of the rules which goes unnoticed.
-For a community to thrive, it’s citizens also have to play a part.
Metaphorically speaking:
DILEMMA: You are walking down the street one night in one of your favorite communities, built around a tradition for which you hold a lot of passion, and you notice a small group of people looting a store.
ASSUMPTION: This scene is taking place in a community that you presumably enjoy visiting, b/c you spend time in the area, benefiting from the interesting social interaction & also contribute to the betterment of the community on a regular basis.
DECISION TIME: What would the best course of action be to help keep the community (that you have helped build and has been good to in the past) stay in the best possible shape, and continue to be prosper, and be an even better place to hang around in the future?
A. Join the looting and incite anarchy.
B. Pour a can of gasoline on the building and chase it with a blowtorch – b/c this will burn the building down - hence stopping the looting.
C. Keep walking & ignore it, letting the proper action take its course naturally - b/c nothing good could come from getting involved in it. So you take a different path that night & start a party in a better area of town, b/c you realize that the looters are only digging their own graves, and that its only an isolated incident compared to all of the good things that happen around town on a regular basis. And after all its inevitable for popular areas of town that attract a wide variety of people to have their ups and downs - but overall its worth it.
D. Alert the authorities, knowing that they have always done their best to handle things fairly in the past – also knowing that if they didn’t, you could always escalate your concern in a civil manner to the mayor.
E. You recognize the person leading the riots as someone you dislike, so you decide to arrange a time to meet that person - outside of the general community where civility prevails - in a place sanctioned for just such events (i.e. UFC, boxing), to maturely or lack thereof discuss your disagreements over tea and croissants – lets call that place “Behind the Woodshed”. And if that person chooses not to accept your challenge, then you can feel triumphant b/c they wanted no piece of your action. You also know what happens behind the ‘shed, stays behind the ‘shed, so there is no worry about it spilling over into the main neighborhood, assuming you say within the main boundaries of that ‘hood (no fish-hooking, berry-stamping, donkey-punching etc.), and if it does that person will be handled accordingly.
F. Pack up and leave town, and eliminate the opportunity for ever having a good time in that community again, letting a small fraction of the general population get the better of you. Then locating a community to relocate to – although you realize it wont fulfill the same passion you have - but you know there will be no potential friction of opinions, and as a result no risk for the same intermittent event ever recurring.

It’s not my intention to belittle anyone with this post. I’m merely trying to illustrate my point in a respectable fashion – and I think everyone can realize which of the above options are acceptable courses of action – C, D, E or F. And if you cant follow one, we will choose one for you.
Now I would very much regret for anyone to leave our forum that truly gave us a fair chance, and still thinks we are an unfit place to discuss the Huskers - without first contacting me privately to attempt to work it out - while acknowledging that we are all human, and its only natural for debates to get intense.
But if it’s still causing someone too much grief to hang around, then I respect your decision to leave, b/c I can accept the fact that we can’t please everyone – it’s unfortunate, but it’s reality.
But please realize - and I think many of our members will support me in saying this - our Mods do an absolutely incredible job with giving everyone a fair opportunity to express their opinions, and make it an inviting place for ALL perspectives, and are MORE than respectable to all; so the least that could be done is to reciprocate that respect, and attempt to have a little more perspective and appreciation for the people who sacrifice their personal time (and do more than most realize), to make a free service valuable enough to feel like an un-free one.
But without cooperation & assistance from each of you, that place won’t exist for long.
