Jon Gruden may be leaving the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, but not to return to the NFL.

Per Lake Lewis of Sports Journey Broadcast Network, Gruden will take over as head coach at the University of Miami. The deal, which is yet to be finalized, should be worth about $3 million per season.

Gruden’s name was rumored in virtually every head coaching vacancy in the NFL over the past two seasons.

The Canes ousted Randy Shannon following a disappointing 7-5 season and poor attendance.

The University gave Shannon a four-year contract extension prior to the season.

Wow, I didnt really expect this. I really figured he would be going to an NFL team and not college one. We will see if this rumor ends up being true

With a lock-out looming this is not a bad move. He will be able to pull back in the Miami talent and no one has shown a better knack for coaching QB's. I would love to see what he could do.

Not going to happen.....

ESPN football analyst Jon Gruden said Sunday night that he isn't leaving ESPN.
"I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN," Gruden said in a statement. "I enjoy working with Mike, Jaws and our entire crew and am just trying to get better at this job."

Earlier Sunday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel, citing a University of Miami source, said Gruden initiated talks for the Hurricanes' open coaching position.

Miami fired Randy Shannon on Saturday night, hours after Miami lost to South Florida in its regular-season finale. The Hurricanes fell to 7-5, still have yet to play for an Atlantic Coast Conference title and lured only 26,369 fans -- many of them rooting for the visitors -- to Sun Life Stadium on Saturday, the smallest home crowd since Larry Coker's last home game in 2006.

The Associated Press, citing an anonymous source, reported that Gruden, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, is atop Miami's wish list to fill the position and that Gruden received "parameters" of an offer from the Hurricanes.

As far as blaming RS for attendence woes, nobody attends sports in Miami, they are all partying in South Beach or something. Tearing down the Orange Bowl didnt help either.
