CANBERRA, Australia -- Scientists and Australian beer maker Foster's are brewing electricity.
An experimental fuel cell is being installed at the Foster's brewery near Brisbane, Australia. The 660-gallon cell generates electricity from the reaction of sugar-consuming bacteria to organic brewing waste.
Researchers say the beer cell will produce about 2 kilowatts of power -- the same as used by the average home. A byproduct is clean water.
