To that, and the Count, and LOMS, we probably could get someone noteworthy, but we just have to get someone who is a good coach (please do not counter this with "Bo is a good coach. You know what I mean here) Many people didn't know who Miles was, sure, but the efforts and outside advice made sure it was. I don't have to have our head coach to be some Voltron monster of David Shaw, Nick Saban, Tom Osborne and Jim Harbaugh, he (or she, BE TRENDSETTING!) just has to be good. Miles is, which proves the process can work.
Also LOMS, there were expectations for the basketball program. They were moving into a new jewel and had tickets to sell, what was going on was not going to work, especially in the Big Ten. Did the bar raise for Miles? Absolutely, and we'll see how he reacts. Just like how the bar raised in 2010-11 for Bo, and he hasn't particularly responded well.

I think this might be true but for whatever reason, there is a part of me that wonders if the stars did not align at the end of last season whereby the (candidate/s) could not, would not be able to commit to our University at that moment in time. I have to admit, Bo has grown on me in a lot of ways but I thought that after the Iowa game rant, he painted himself into a corner. I will never wish for a bad season for the sake of replacing a coach and like I stated, there are things I do like about Bo! Does he have what it takes to develop/take this team to the next step? This is my concern but my hope is ~ he does!

The point, I think, is that at the end of it all you can only have an educated guess to how good a coach is or will be. We guessed that Miles would be good, and so far we've been right, but the process could have been done equally as well and it turned into a bust of a hire.
There's a marriage between having a good process in searching for a candidate mixed with just plain luck.

So one case study isn't enough to discredit or credit a coaching search process? We may have finally seen the end of the Solich excuse.
But yeah, I get ya. I just have a hard time believing Nebraska wouldn't bend the ends of the earth to get this one right this time. Probably a big reason why they didn't move after Iowa, Bo's presser caught everyone off guard and they couldn't get their ducks in a row.....

Agree, there's just no way we continue down this road. I think Bo could. I think he could go conservative and continue to win 9 or 10 for a number of years. Our schedule allows for that. But I think (as we kind of saw in the Iowa game) - he's going to start taking some risk. You can't be conservative ho-hum and get 12 wins. You've gotta do something a little different, take a risk here and there, throw an entirely new defense an at unsuspecting opponent, trick play on 3rd and long, etc. It might blow up in your face sometimes, but you can't just keep the status quo anymore. Too much tape, too much analysis, scouting, etc. More wrinkles.

If you go back and read the posts of when Bo was hired, it truly has been a failure, even in his own words. We are not back, unless back is being a barely top 25 program, with no BCS appearances, no CC and no real mention in the NC hunt. Back being better than BC, yes to some extent
Most expected this program to be a lot farther along than it is. That is honesty. Those that made those heartfelt predictions have curbed their expectations some, and some have changed whole heartedly.
We are not where the majority of this board predicted, not even close.
We have a minimum of one year for Bo to prove he is the right guy, maybe more, after last year no one really knows. Saying the author has unfounded speculation could be reversed just as easily. Nationally, Bo is considered on a warming seat.
I know that I have changed in my expectations, being less than they ever have been. Losses used to make me sick, lived them for days, weeks and years sometimes. Not anymore. I guess I have began to expect the disappointments and roll with the punch. I never thought I would think that way, but I honestly do.

reality check? Bo has had some do overs, that's for sure....his experience as head coach should be sufficient now, time to produce.
Media hacks sell advertising. They do not make coaching decisions at the University of Nebraska.
