Schools Considering - or Actually - Cancelling Spring Games

Knapplc, do you think that if (when) our basketball and baseball teams become consistently successful, there won't be as much teeth gnashing over a cancellation?

Yes. There still would be. Becuase the spring game here is so much more than that. It's an opportunity for ANYONE to take their whole family to a significant football event at THE Memorial Stadium. See the tunnel walk. Tour the stadium. For kids, go down on the field. To a lot of folks, the spring game experience is probably much more special than any actual game. Now, i dont know this feeling first hand. I'm fortunate enough to attend multiple games each year. But the spring game is a rare instance to take my kids along too. to kickback and let them run around some. It's not nearly as business like and serious. IT's just a fun time overall. It's what our spring game has evolved into. And I seriously doubt any degree of success of basketball and/or baseball will have a bearing on that whatsoever.

 
I have only attended one spring game, when my son was 7-8 years old. It was a great deal for him. On the field, talking with the players, Coach Osborne shaking his hand, messing with him a bit. this is a time to plant the seed, feel the power that is involved with Nebraska football. Game day is game day, electric, but seldom close contact. I hope they never consider doing away with it, and I doubt they would, it is a big day for business in the city, and it seems to be getting bigger every day. The only thing that might be better if it was played partially under the lights.

I think our spring game I far more important to Nebraska, the state than others.

Unfortunately going to miss again for another year, but hope to get home for a regular season game.

Baseball usually plays on that day, or has in the past. And the thought has occurred to me to go by the stadium for the vibe and then skip the game and go to the baseball thing.

Off topic a bit, but I think NFL preseason is the absolute worst. Why they haven't cut it down to 2 games is beyond me.

I used to think so but now the preseason is a "Where Are They Now" of college qbs, I think we saw Vince Young last time around. It's fun to watch your old favorites and pray they somehow make a roster.

How long until the spring game becomes a 'scrimmage' against another program?
