Scott Spinelli

If it's true that Spinelli is leaving the Husker basketball program, this does not speak well for the program. Spinelli must think he'll have a greater chance of advancing and winning at WSU than he does at NU.

Also, I really think SP messed up by not replacing Collier with Spinelli. There is no reason for the University of Nebraska to have such a crummy men's basketball program.

Nebraska basketball assistant leaves for job with Wichita State

Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Associate Head Coach Scott Spinelli accepted a similar job with Wichita State University's basketball program Friday.

Spinelli, who was in his third year at Nebraska, oversaw the Cornhuskers' recruiting efforts and represented the program at events when Coach Barry Collier couldn't attend.

"Scott has done a very good job in his three years with our program, and we sincerely appreciate his efforts on and off court," Collier said.

Spinelli's ultimate goal is to become a Division I head coach, and this move will help him do that, Collier said.

Before joining the Nebraska staff, Spinelli spent two seasons at Loyola (Ill.)

Not sure if this all applies here or not, but down here in KC, on 810AM's "The Boarder Patrol", they were talking about Collier being gone after this season coming up regardless and are worried that NU is somewhat of a sleeping giant, basketball wise. They were talking about Matt Doherty who took over at SMU after handing Roy Williams a national championship team at North Carolina wanting back in the bigtime and NU would be a nice fit for him "when" Collier is fired at seasons end...
