Someday when I have time, I need to go back and analyze the last 7 years and summarize how just about every year the chips have fallen in the SEC's favor. Yes, they have won 7 straight which is tremendous but many times the best teams (aka this year's Alabama team) do not play in the NCG. In CFB, more than any other sport, you need luck to win the title. OSU did in 2002 when many ranked teams fell ahead of them and OSU won a handful of close games.

I can just see OSU losing or possibly Auburn jumping them and it is Auburn vs FSU in the NCG. Winston gets charged and instead of a FSU romp, the SEC wins #8.

Just off the top of my head,

2012 - Bama backs in (played 3 ranked teams and lost to one of them) with #1 Oregon losing at home late in the Nov. Many considered Oregon the best team that year with Bama. Bama gets an easy match up with ND.

2011 - Bama backs in again with Okie State loss to freggin Iowa State. Bama gets rematch with LSU without having to play extra CCG.

2010 - Cam Newton skirts NCAA violations late in the season. Play Oregon whose offense disappears in the game.

2009 - Bama wins after Colt McCoy starting QB goes down on UT's first drive near the Bama goal line.

2008 it couldve been Texas or Tech playing Florida and either wouldve been better than OU. Also the Ole Miss loss couldve knocked the. Outta contention if not for Tebow fever.

 
Don't forget the year that 2 loss LSU made the title game while 1 loss Kansas went to the Orange Bowl.

 
People also overlook that the 2 loss LSU team that backed into the national title game (that was played in Louisiana) they had lost 2 games to teams that were not very good (Kentucky and Arkansas) and amazingly didn't drop very far in the polls at all.

Now your just grasping straws. If you truly believe a team that finished second in their division and at that time had zero wins against teams with winning records should have played for that mnc you are either crazy or blinded by hate.

There is always some luck in getting to that game. Ohio state needed two teams to lose while they sat at home idle. With thqt said. Not much luck in a 21 point 4th quarter lead.

 
I really think if Gene Smith would have just self imposed a bowl ban two years ago for OSU, the streak would have ended last year. It would have been OSU vs ND for the NCG with OSU having a great shot at winning the game.

Good point. Never know what playing in that Gator Bowl accomplished except giving OSU another SEC loss.

There was also the year LSU escaped with a win at UF when the LSU holder flipped the ball over his head on a fake FG and it just happened to bounce straight up to the LSU kicker who ran for a first down. It was a 1 in a million bounce.

Id say they have luck every week. The rankings are set up so that should team #1 lose, #2 takes their spot. Bama Auburn. The rest of the SEC gets ranked highly so that it garauntees several in the top ten just in case it pans out we can get a repeat all SEC BCS Title game sham. Dont you remember how fun that was? An instant classic where the champion of the SEC was shutout to a team they beat to secure their own division. Everyone gets a trophy! Yaaaaay!

 
In a sense, the SEC may actually luck out this year too. FSU would likely destroy Auburn/Missouri which would bruise the SEC ego. Instead they get to destroy OSU and the OSU/B1G bashing will be at epic levels for at least another year. Auburn/Missouri will manhandle UCF (somehow the SEC always gets the BE or now the AAC in bowl games to pad its record) in the Sugar Bowl and Bama will flog Clemson in the Orange. All we will hear is it should have been Auburn/Missouri/Bama instead of OSU.

The scenario may affect next year's playoff selection too if a B1G team is on the playoff bubble.

 
If tOSU can get by the MSU D then the reign of terror is over. Until next year when ESPN lobbies to get 3 SEC Teams in the playoff. Thay way when two get in it will look like a "compromise".

 
What is the exact timeline of the power shift to the SEC?

Its obviously Vince Young's fault for not staying 1 more year. Talk about SEC luck.

Well the SEC backed in again. Now all they need is for more info to come out on Jameis or a key FSU injury and they get #8 in a row.
