Shields

OK...I checked Huskermax's basketball page and found an article claiming that Shields was injured during the scrimmage? WTF????

Are there updates? This is the first I have heard of this and I'm shocked it wasn't in the media more.

Do we know if he is in practice this week?

I was there and it was a pretty big fall. He tried to stop a break away dunk and blocked it going down on the ground hard on his shoulder. I think he will be ok and will play the beginning of the season.

So...who went up for the block? From the article it made it sound like Pitchford went up for the block harder than his team mates thought he should have in a scrimmage exhibition.

Shields was going for a dunk... Pitchford wasn't allowing dunks.

BTW - Pitchford is a freak athlete for his size. Forget about weak Jorge Brian Diaz, Pitchford will be dunking on some fools this year.

Shields didn't seem to be hurting when he was signing autographs afterwards. Was smiling and having a good time. Hopefully it wasn't too serious.

So, is Pitchford a player that plays with the attitude of...."This area around the basket is my area and you MFer aren't coming in"?

I am so tired of Nebraska having big guys that don't have an attitude.

Whatever it was, it sounded fierce.

Pitchford is the guy I am most excited to see this year, even more than Webster. We haven't had a player with his size and athleticism in a long long time.

Agree. And I don't know who I could even compare him to (in your reference to a long time).

Examples or suggestions ?

They aren't really the same type of player, but Mikki Moore is the last one that could control his body in the air like that and make some plays above the rim. It is going to see a lot of fun seeing a big man not stuck to the floor like we have lately.

Mikki was athletic, but Walter is so much thicker and more powerful..........

My best guess would be a hybrid of the power of Andre Smith and the athleticism of Mikki........

Shavon Shields and David Rivers have both returned to practice full-speed, Miles said. Shields, in fact, practiced twice the day after landing on his tailbone and leaving Nebraska’s Sept. 27 scrimmage. Rivers missed the scrimmage because of a foot issue.
