Sipple: Pelini allows media invaluable opportunity to observe

Things I know and think I know:
As our great nation fixated on the NCAA Tournament bracket announcement Sunday -- how in the world did Iona get in over Drexel?! -- my mind was on Nebraska spring football.

Yeah, I know -- madness.

Husker coach Bo Pelini graciously allowed media to watch Saturday's first spring practice in its entirety. That hadn't happened in years. Early indications are Bo is trying a friendlier approach with the media.

The practice's intensity and tempo were striking. Although the season is months away, there was an unmistakable sense of urgency. It was as if Nebraska was preparing for a game next week. Welcome to the big time.

Despite the completely uninformed and baseless opinions on this board and across the state, Bo is constantly growing up and open to change. Of course he's stubborn, you have to be stubborn to be a successful head coach, but he's not as bullheaded as some would want to think. The few times he's really opened up and been candid are more than enough evidence for this, and I'm really glad relations with the media are still improving.

Go get 'em Bo.

Just ignore the internet genius crowd, Bo. You'll be just fine.

I have to agree with Sipple about Mike Marrow. Granted, he saw a lot more than I did, but after seeing some of the practice footage, the kid looks like a total wrecking ball. He looks like the absolute last guy you'd want to see on 3rd and Goal.

I am really encouraged by a lot of what Bo has done lately, not the least of which is his recent appearances in interviews as well as our two most recent hires. The honeymoon had just ended on the Bo hire for me but this feels like it's starting up all over again -- maybe it's just the feel-good-ness of the offseason, from which hope springs eternal.

So having said that, I gotta say, Sip is really a man on a mission.

I think Bo realized last season that the honeymoon is over, and having those guys on his side wouldn't hurt. Let's hope nobody tweets the wrong thing and Bo promptly puts an end to it. I've enjoyed the articles a lot more so far this year.

This is what I meant in the other thread when I said Bo has a lot more control over the media's impression/view than he realizes. He just hasn't quite figured out how to use it yet. Case in point: giving the media some access and playing nice. The tone in the articles is very different than if we'd still been shut out and he was spending 30 second discussing "execution" and "staying the course" of his "process"

First practice and Taylor is already throwing interceptions AH :ahhhhhhhh
missed the part where it said Taylor threw an interception. :dunno I did see where Davie picked off one of our QBs though. Davie is going to be huge for us some day. Really like this kids potential. Consider him my guy. I'm declaring it today - some day I'll be saying "i told all you guys Davie was going to be 'big time' for us." And then you all can remind me how he didn't have any stars to his name (since I defend the star system so much)

I think (or, hope) he's just being sarcastic, as the article says nothing about who threw the interception.
