Sipple's take on the tape - Bo protective of players

Dagerow

Special Teams Player
Sipple made some comments that haven't received much attention and one I believe is worthy of a separate thread. Sipple explained that Bo's "disagreements" with the media usually occur while he is trying to protecting a player or players. Bo was pissed, at the time, with stories "attacking" Martinez, and the fact that the student section was booing the players during the game. I remember this occurring at the time and Bo pretty much saying the same in public without the language.

The point is that, just like a protective parent, sibling or friend, a coach should have his player's backs. We should support this, not attack it. It is admirable. They are young student athletes, not paid professionals, who are trying their best. Moreover, do you disagree with his comments when they are put in context? I sure as hell don't.

But, but, but, he used the f-word. F-dash-dash-dash. He should be drawn and quartered!!

/ is the sarcasm emoti really necessary for this? lol

The fact that there is little or no reaction nationally from former coaches and players (not associated with UNL) should tell you that stuff like this is likely said routinely within programs across the country.... Move on....

I just read this article on LJS as well, and really get annoyed with Sipple sometimes. He always tries to walk this line of making a point, but making sure he doesn't offend anyone in the process. Rather than coming out and blaming Bo for his poor coaching performance on the field, and suggesting that he should be let go for that and that alone, Sipple goes after the person who released this tape. I agree that the timing is poor, and if it was going to get released, last December after the Big 10 championship game, or after the bowl game, would have been a better time for many reasons. With that said, Bo should never have made those comments about the fans. I can understand his frustration with the media, but cursing the fans is silly. I was at that Ohio State game where this took place, and there was a very light chorus of boos at halftime, but Bo did not have his team ready to play. Moreover, it was the fans in the 3rd and 4th quarters in the middle of a downpour that hung around to support the team. Bo essentially had his Paula Dean moment, and made inappropriate comments about the wrong groups (the fans).

The fact that this showed up on Deadspin, after likely being shopped around for some time, should also tell you that there is more smoke than fire to this whole thing.

So with Sipple using various negative adjectives to describe the "tipster", will we ever find out just who he/she is........and put personal motive and/or context into their intentions??

Sipple does basically the same thing I did in this thread. Sipple doesn't need to rake Bo over the coals for this. That will be well and amply taken care of by the fans, and justifiably so.

Sipple showed here that, like a lot of people, he can walk and chew gum at the same time. This is a novel concept, I know. It means that doing one thing does not mean you're doing nothing else.

We can be very disappointed in Pelini over this - and we can also be utterly disgusted by the transparently dickish move by this person.

Again, it's just a strange take considering how much he was looking forward to abandoning his players, to show that tiny percentage of fans what they were missing.
