Spring game and luncheon

Just got back from the Spring Game and I was pleased with some things. Although the injuries to Marlon Lucky and Lydon Murtha could really dampen spirits. Will have to wait to see how bad they really were hurt.

Before the game I went to the luncheon at the Coliseum. It was good food by Skeeter Barnes and they were doing a video recap of the 2007 recruiting class while we ate. The speakers were Coach Callahan, John Cook, Doc Sadler, and Steve Pederson. Coach Callahan said the fans should temper their expectations for the Spring Games because of the number of players that are injured and not playing and some good ones will be joining the program in the fall. One interesting thing he mentioned regarded the number of reps. He said he asked coaches from other schools (likely Auburn and others) how many reps they averaged at practice and was told 70 to 75. Coach Callahan said this spring the players were averaging 155 reps per practice so Nebraska basically got two Spring practices in during the allotted time period.

During the warm up I was impressed with Holt and how he was performing in the drills. During the game I was impressed with Keller, Lucky, Glenn, Peterson, Suh, and Octavien. Witt and Brooks also showed alot of promise. Phillips showed improvement at TE but Mueller was disappointing with two drops.

Other than the injuries there were more positives than negatives. It was a good day to visit Lincoln.

Both Zack Bowman and Kenny Wilson were at the luncheon and Pederson had them come up in front of everyone so they could "feel some love" while they are healing and show they are not forgotten. It was a long and loud standing ovation.
