Spring Game Pics

I agree with all of that in general, but I don't agree that Taylor is "developing" still. In fact with all of this "new offense" work he's been focusing on lately, he still hasn't seem to fix his fundamentals.

The little I did see of him last Saturday might not have been enough to draw this conclusion yet, but for what it's worth heres what I have come up with.

1. Still Injured.

2. Still throwing off back foot.

3. Still Stares down receivers.

4. Still Has no progression ability.

5. Still has Accuracy issues.

6. Still No Pocket presence.

7. Still Has no drop back routine. (He ran the 2 step drop in High School)

8. Still has Issues getting rid of ball. (Instead scampers around trying to run when he has no clue where defenders are, getting thrown to the ground in the process.)

9. Game management issues. (Here is one thing he's a little better at.)

10. Low Football IQ

11. etc...

While you can argue that he hasn't had enough time to work on this stuff yet, I think he should at least have some of this stuff down by now. But until I see it for myself, I will stand by this. I would agree that fumbling is probably the least worrisome of all of his problems, but with as many as there are... why is this guy starting??
Good post. I would agree with most of that.

The reason Bo called him his "starter" as of right now is because he's the most experienced of all the quarterbacks and (until Carnes showed up) had the most game-changing ability with his feet. There's room for someone to beat Martinez, and experience doesn't mean everything, but we still don't know enough about this offense to make an educated decision yet.

There have been plenty of "good" college quarterbacks with bad mechanics, but they were successful within their offenses.

it would be nice to know what his summer plan is for improvement, i believe Niles worked out with his cousin in some NFL summer workouts, not sure how much it helped, but if i knew the kid was going to hang with Peyton, i would feel better about his playing next fall.

I would pay money to hear what Gruden has to say about Martinez.

I believe he is returning to California to train. Can't remember where I heard this, possibly from Taylor in a post-spring practice interview, but I'm almost positive that is his plan.

I'm gonna wait to get a look at the new offense. They spent all winter and spring working on a new offense, and then junked it for the spring game in favor of something completely different. I realize that doesn't negate Martinez's mechanics issues, but I'm still guessing he looks a lot different this fall in the new offense.
