Special Teams Player
I screwed up last week when I posted these (on more than formatting, which is the norm for me). I have since corrected the error and apologize for misleading my fellow Cornhusker fans.
I'm calculating z-scores for individual stats in nine categories (pass d&o, rush d&o, scoring d&o, total d&o, and turnover margin), averaging them for those categories, and then averaging those averages to come up with rankings. A z-score is just the difference between a stat and the national average for that stat, divided by the standard deviation for that stat. It can be converted to a percentile for easier consideration. I usually wait to post these until most teams have played at least 3-5 other FBS teams because I don't want to consider stats garnered versus lesser competition...but I got bored and decided to update the spreadsheets early. We have two more teams in FBS than we did last year (though their status may be classified as provisional yet).
For reference, I'm going to start with everyone's favorite team. These are Nebraska's rankings, relative to all the national statistics from all the games played to date:
Passing offense percentile: 25
Passing defense percentile: 19
Rushing offense percentile: 40
Rushing defense percentile: 59
Scoring offense percentile: 50
Scoring defense percentile: 21
Total offense percentile: 46
Total defense percentile: 33
Turnover margin percentile: 33
Overall percentile: 35
Defensive percentile: 32
Offensive percentile: 40
