The Huskers were mixing business with danger in the Big House, a chorus of “Seven Nation Army” raining down on them as senior right tackle Jeremiah Sirles walked oh-so-slowly off the field.
Give Zach Sterup credit here. He does not exaggerate in remembering this story. Truth be told, he doesn’t give himself enough credit.
“We were backed up on the 2-yard line,” Sterup recalls, though not with the utmost accuracy.
Make that the 1-yard line. That’s where the ball was against Michigan last November when Sterup came onto the field to take the biggest football snaps of his life.
“Just gotta go,” Sterup said of his thoughts. “I mean, this is my time. I’ve been working for three years at that point to play. There’s not a better place to play than in the Big House.”
Forget dipping toes into the water. This was a cannonball from the high board, televised for all to see.
