Student Section nickname

I was reading on the big ten blog on espn today and they had a part about student section nick names for football and basketball. I was wondering why NU student havent made a name for their section? they gave examples and i liked the childern of the corn. I just wanted everyones take on this topic. Some schools have the student sections across all sports known by the same name, others name each section (respective to sport) individually. In our case it's the latter, with the basketball students known as the Red Zone, the volleyball students known as The Block, etc., and for some reason the football students don't have a name.

 
I much prefer "The Red Zone" or "The Red Square" over children of the corn. Bo's Band is a far distant last place.

 
We don't need a name for our football section, all we need is what opponents have known for years, that this is one of the toughest places to play in all college football

Minnesota's got TCF Bank Stadium, they call their student section "The Vault". Thought that was pretty cool. We're in too deep now for a nickname that'll stick.

 
It's been tried before, but unfortunately it never seems to stick. For example, a few years ago students thought it would be a great idea to do the "Black Hole" and have all the students wear blackshirts in the student section.

Needless to say, I think one of the first big games it was tried we ended up losing (perhaps it was the 2007 USC game). Furthermore another college football program has a black hole as the name for their student section.

I think it's possible that a name could stick if enough people ended up liking it. However it doesn't seem like people are very adamant about naming our section - they'd just rather watch the games.

I always thought the student section was considered the "red zone" in Memorial, just like it is at the Devaney...

It was just never made "official" for football.

I just think that it would be awesome if we had a name and the tv commintators said that name it would have some exposer for the students and the Univeristy

That was a pretty flaccid attempt at an insult, honey. Try a little harder. Or better yet, just give up. :)

 
I always liked it when they called USC's student section the "area where a bunch of dbags with popped collars and daddy's visa occasionally sat".

It's really hard to get on a t-shirt though.
