Sumo Wrestling

I used to get sumo wrestling on DirecTV once in a while. It's actually kind of fun to watch. I wish they'd put it on again as a late night space filler. It's more of a sport than, say, poker.

The thing is, they don't look very athletic. I always wondered if a good NFL lineman could kick these guys to the curb?

Assuming each had similar knowledge of blocking techniques and both are of equal size. I would have to go with the Sumo, although pads might hamper his ability.

Ha ha! I was thinking more of putting a big O-lineman into the sumo ring. Somebody like Michael Roos or Bryant McKinnie. They both go around 330 lbs or so. But I’ll bet both could add another 50 lbs if they only needed to be agile in a 10 foot ring.

There's no way a sumo wrestler could block in the NFL. They carry too much weight to be mobile for more than a few feet.

I disagree, I bet if you put a 300 pound sumo wrestler against Bryant Kinnie in a match, Kinnie would get dominated.

I think sumos are mostly heavier than 350, or maybe even 400. Akebono the guy form Hawaii was one of the biggest a few years back. He was north of 500 lbs.

As near as I can tell, an NFL lineman has never gone up against a sumo. A quick googly didn't turn up anything. But several MMA type fighters have "fought" sumos. The small guy often wins if punching/kicking is allowed.
