Tailgating Do's and Dont's

Got my pass for lot 19 (outfield parking lot of Haymarket Park) and was looking for advice. In the past I have always mooched off of other people's tailgates, but recently decided to have my own. Any words of wisdom? What time do people start for a 6 pm kickoff? How strict are they about the alcohol rule for a dry campus? Any others?

Not sure how things work at Haymarket Park, since I doubt it's considered campus, hence drinking shouldn't be an issue, but there is an open-container law in Nebraska...dispense drinks into plastic cups and you should be fine.

We tailgate in lot 20, right next to 19. We get there about 2-2:30 to get some good tailgaiting in. Like Foppa said, pour your beer into a plastic cup and throw away the can/bottle and you should have no problems. They have cops over there, but they don't care provided you aren't being stupid about it.

Can I walk around ANY street with a solo cup in my hand with beer??

I was always wondering how you could get away with beer in a cup and get in trouble if its in a can. ;) Isn't the cup open, hence open container, lol.

But anyway, make sure you make lots of brats and burgers and eat lots salsa. I also like to either listen to music to get me pumped up or listen to the pre-game on the radio. Or just mingle with people as they walk by. :cheers

We tailgated 2 times last year, once in the haymarket (lot right next to the train tracks - sorry don't know streets) and another just off campus. Both times and places there were large numbers of people, adults, students and children. Many drinking - yes we were too. The bike cops were riding around and we saw many people getting ticketed and plastic cups being dumped out. Cup makes it less of a target, but it doesn't eliminate you from being ticketed. You just have to take your chances if you want to drink in public...but then again you do that if you're drinking at a softball game too.

Here in Wisconsin I think you can have an open beer anywhere except inside a moving car. We have our values.

Regarding Do's & Don'ts, I've got a "Don't"; Don't forget to hand me a cold one if I walk by.

When I was stationed in Mississippi you could have an open container anywhere, even in a moving car, as long as you were not the driver. But what else would you expect from a crazy place like that?

Do these lots require registration. Who would I talk to get a site.
huskers.com has lot passes available for $96 for the entire season for lot 20 over in Haymarket's parking lot. I'm not sure if you require more space due to vehicle size, I would call the ticket office for accomodations.
