Talk about wanting us to fail

I agree, it's bad news when someone like this pulls the plug on NU. After yesterday's events, all I could think to myself was, "we just became Alabama." I hope Mr. Cook reconsiders and is impressed with the new AD(whoever that may be).
Did we just hire Nick Saben? :o

I hope I am not being grouped as "attacking" or whatever skersfan. I am just upset when a booster, or fan, or even third party observer starts saying that anyone who takes a job at Nebraska is taking a high percentage risk. I think that being AD and/or coach here is one of the best in the Nation. And my original point is that I wish Mr. Cook (who I think has done great things for the University) would just take his money away if he thinks that is what needs to be done, because it is his money. I wish he wouldn't take pot shots in the press as what a big risk at being to Head Coach of Nebraska football is. It hurts us in getting high quality candidates to take the position to right this ship. Well beyond just removing his money.

Cook is just upset right now his friend got fired so he is venting so everyone knows where he stands but after time things will blow over and he will write this checks IMO.. If Cook doesnt want to be part of the program then so be it you cant change someones mind, but I hope he understands this was for the better an that he would be taking away from the students not just the head brass at the U

No, we are allowing boosters and alumni to have a ton of influence on what goes on in this program. We are no different than Alabama right now, IMO. The next to go is Callahan and possibly another series of coaches later that takes the lead from our offense...3 and out(3 years and out the door that is).

Callahan's future at NU is on hold

BY RICH KAIPUST

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

It's going to be difficult to get somebody to come to Nebraska when you're going to get chopped up by the papers and chopped up by the fans," said Cook, whose name is on the Cook Pavilion, the football team's indoor practice facility before the Hawks Center opened. "I'm not saying what the right thing to do is, but if you pull the plug on people, you better know where you're going. Who wants to come to Nebraska? Who's going to really embrace the program? It's a high-percentage risk for somebody to take the job."

Mr. Cook is throwing a temper tantrum because his friend got canned. He is absolutely embarassing himself as far as I'm concerned. Please Mr. Cook don't go away, mad, but please just go away.

Does anyone know - was he one of the boosters that called for Solich's firing? If he is, he is the biggest reason it would have been tough to get a coach -go basically 10-3 and get canned - why would anyone want to coach in that type of situation.
I think if skersfan sees your post he'll let you have it.

Mr. Cook has donated millions of dollars to the University. Not just athletics, but to the students. The Cook Pavilion when built and still is looked at by many schools as the template for student recreation centers. He has given countless donations. He had the NU in his will, geared to recieve millions in gifts. He could have very easily given these gifts to someone else or group.

My point, is to show a little damn respect to a man that has given more than just a donation for his season tickets. He's 72 and donated his life to NU. Very few of us have done this. Plus, he makes a honest point. Without him, he have no great weight room or student center. Which means lower enrollment, fewer great athletes, less $...less success period.
I didnt know he was so involved. Sounds like his heart is at NU & he's hurting, & he's been very generous. Hopefully he will stick around. If he walks away, he walks away and NU takes a hit. As for the threats - do what he wants or he walks and no money - does not change the fact that it's immature and controlling. I dont know about you all, but I dont bow to the mighty dollar.
