Taylor Has Some Milestones Within Reach

And in fairness to some of the greats who came before, these 14 game seasons are making a lot of those bigger numbers possible.
That's a good point. You'd almost have to break it down to yards-per-play for these guys to get even a remote comparison. Crouch and Frazier and lots of the other top QBs had huge leads in many games and sat for the 4th quarter on a frequent basis, so you can't even go per-game.

I never thought about it that way, but you're right. All of our games are close now. We used to have so many blowouts. I've got some stats put together at home for attempts needed per TD, etc. but I'm not done with them yet. I'm going to throw them into Minitab and come up with some cool charts for people to view. It's a slow process due to how difficult stats are to find prior to the year 2002, so I'm going through a lot of play-by-play summaries, etc. on Huskermax to gather info.

How about per play? sounds fair to me.

Agreed. :D

Yards per pass attempt appears to be the single biggest criterion for a high QB rating.

But maybe somebody with more time can go through all the NCAA quarterbacks with great stats and see how many turned out to be good NFL quarterbacks. Or heck, how many led their college team to 9 win seasons.

Leadership is still the great intangible.

That's why I've always considered Tommie our best QB. His stats weren't great, but you had confidence in him that he was going to get you into the right play. It's clear that the players around Taylor have more faith in him this year, so as a leader he is just fine with me.
