Tea

Do you drink it? What kind?

I'm trying to find more herbal teas I can stand, that (supposedly) do healthy things. Lately I've been drinking chamomile, spearmint, dandelion, and licorice. Dandelion is bleh and licorice tea is gross, so I mix them with the other 2. I find that drinking tea especially helps if you're trying to lose some weight because you can drink it while watching a movie instead of eating something unhealthy.

Also, my theory, which I have nothing to back up with, is that herbal teas really do have health benefits. They always have the writing that says something like "the FDA has not approved this for whatever." But many of them ALSO have writing that says "Do not drink this tea for more than 2 weeks in a row." For whatever reason, the fact it has a negative side effects warning tells me there are probably positive side effects too. I guess because that seems to be the case with all drugs.

I've been replacing coffee with English black tea in the mornings. I like the Twinings brand.

Also, drinking water while watching movies is even better than tea. Just saying.

I drink mostly coffee.  But once in a while I get a hankering for tea.  I drink mostly Chinese teas that I mix from loose leaf and run through a strainer.   I have a whole assortment of Chinese teas.  Maybe 20 different brands of various types.  I have a several Japanese teas too.

I drink plenty of water, so that isn't a problem. I think it's just that there's a habit of having a treat with a movie, so tea is the treat now.

Do you have a favorite? I've only tried a few. I really like dragonwell. And maybe I just brewed it too long or too hot but I didn't like the gunpowder tea I tried. (I also don't know of gunpowder is a certain type of green tea or just the shape of it).

My tastes have varied over time.  I drink black tea once in a while (紅茶) but some black teas taste bitter to me.  So it's hit or miss with the black teas.  In general I prefer green tea (茶經) or Oolong tea (乌龙茶).  Both are a bit milder and have lots of different flavors.  I don't read Mandarin so I have to compare the Chinese symbols with a reference to know what I'm buying.  The last couple months I've been into Genmaicha, a Japanese green tea.

btw, I started buying Chinese tea when I went to Chinatown in LA for the first time years ago.  I liked the cool little pictures on the tins they came in.  So I would just randomly buy a brand of tea based on the picture on the tin.  Some of them I like.  Some, not so much.  I probably have a dozen or 15 of those little tins, most of which are empty by now.  :)

Black tea. No sugar.

I prefer it pretty plain. Once in awhile will mix in some flavored tea especially if I'm going to drink it cold. There's nothing better than sun tea made with plain ole Luzianne and maybe a couple bags of blackberry.

I pretty much drink coffee in the morning and if I want something hot later in the day then I'll go with tea. If I'm being health conscious, will drink green tea but that stuff needs to be mixed with something because it's kinda gross on it's own.

I've never tried tea with sugar or honey, so I think I'll keep not knowing what I'm missing. Someone had me try tea with milk added once and I really didn't like it.

I drink Lipton Peach and Pineapple Passionfruit teas.  It's not really tea though, it's more a high fructose corn syrup sugar drink that sort of tastes like tea.  They have less calories and caffeine than soda so while not exactly healthy, they're better than colas.
