team captains

Last year captains were a game-by-game thing. I don't know if we'll have year-long captains this time or not.

If anyone should be a captain, it should be Ndamukong Suh. If he's not, I'm not sure what being a team captain means.

Does anyone else think think this is an odd way to select captains? On any team I've known of, the captains where the unquestioned leaders of the team, either because they are upperclassmen, highly respected by their teammates or possess some other quality that the rest of the team can look up to.

Selecting random players each week, or rewarding that weeks work out wonders seems pointless to me, and kind of defeats the purpose of even having them. But hey I'm not the coach so.............. :dunno

I totally agree. I wish Bo would pick a couple of constant guys. If captains are changed every week it's like they're not really captains at all.

I'm in agreement that captains should be selected at the beginning of the season and remain as captains for the whole season. One from offense, one from defense, one from special teams, and maybe one rotating captain each week, but that's it.

Nah, man. That's weird. I've never heard of that before either.

I almost think that most things that happened last year were a case of, "this is my first time coaching above a Coordinator position and I'm making some of it up as I go."

It's to be expected, of course, but it makes for some strange circumstances.

I coach football and have seen game by game caps a few times. Its not all that uncommon. Usually how it works is you have practice captains, that lead the team and then game by game caps.

Even better, have the players vote on permanent captains. I can't remember for sure... the players voted on captains each week last year didn't they?

I'm in the group in favor of permanent captains, but I'm not on the team so as long as they are the best leaders each week, I'm fine with it.

Yet the system he used brought back an aggressive defense and a winning record. I have actually seen this system work in different programs. It doenst matter who the captains are becuase the people on the field will make the difference. It is often accepted that the QB and the Middle Linebacker are in charge of their sides of the ball becuase they make the calls. Suh will be the voice on defense captain or not. Zac lee will lead the offense regardless if he gets the C. This encourages the same competition that occurs in practice. If we celebrate the blackshirt tradition then this should be accepted as well.

Last year we had weekly captains simply because there was very little leadership on that team when Bo took over. over the course of the season leaders emerged through that process and at the end of the season the official team leaders were selected based upon the year's work.

But that likely won't be the case this year as there are now players who understand what leadership is and are able to step up.

I'd expect Suh and Barry Turner on Defense and Holt and Hickman on offense be the captains.

This year they have to grab five bucks out of a jar filled with salt and barb wire.

Actually I have no clue. Should be some good Captains though

I actually like mixing it up a bit. Gives more players a chance to be captains and goes along with the mentality of never being "locked in" at anything.
