Two inmates were found dead in a housing unit at the Tecumseh State Prison after a riot, officials said Monday morning.
The staff has secured the prison after guards broke up a mob there Sunday.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the deaths as well as the riot. All staff are accounted for and there is no risk to the public, officials said.
The inmates' next of kin have not yet been notified, officials said, so their identities aren't yet being released.
According to a press release from the prison, the riot occurred about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Staff members noticed a large gathering of inmates in front of a housing unit and tried to disperse them.
Two inmates were injured during the riot Sunday and taken to the hospital for treatment. One man was shot and another was hurt by a rubber projectile, the release said. Their conditions were unavailable Monday morning.
