Quarterback Taylor Potts and safety Cody Davis weren’t on the dress roster Texas Tech released Thursday for Saturday’s 6 p.m. home game against Kansas State.
Both got hurt in last week’s game against New Mexico and didn’t practice this week. Steven Sheffield will get his first career start in place of Potts, and Franklin Mitchem could return to the starting lineup at safety for the first time since week two.

Center Shawn Byrnes and defensive end Daniel Howard were on the dress roster, but both could be considered questionable. Both came out of last week’s game with injuries and missed Tuesday, the first significant practice of the week. Both were back in pads on Wednesday.

Apparently Taylor Potts has himself a concussion. I saw him go out in the New Mexico game but it wasn't immediately reported that this was the issue. Anyone a medical guy? How long does a concussion last before a player can think about suiting up again (I see Tebow is still not practicing after a couple weeks)?

 
No way to tell from a distance. Depends on how bad the concussion was, and how fast the individual heals. It could be anything from back next week, to career ending. Just no way to tell.
