Five-Star Recruit
Niles Paul :clap

Per LJS:

Nebraska practiced this morning inside Memorial Stadium, the first of two scheduled practices today. Only one more two-a-day remains after today.

“Today was a bit of a down day, but it’s one of those things where we’ve got to fight through it, and come back in the second practice,” center Jacob Hickman said. “You can’t make excuses for it. You’ve just got to keep going.”

Major Culbert was in full pads but said he wouldn't be full-go until Friday. He said his injury was a low ankle sprain.

"I’m doing great things on it, though," Culbert said. "At first I couldn’t do high knees very well. I tried that out today and did that pretty well. Backpedaling, planting, I did that pretty well. It’s no rush though. I’ve still got time.”

I also talked to Nate Swift, who said Niles Paul is listed No. 1 on the depth chart at punt returner.

Paul is also apparently in the mix on kickoff returns, along with Larry Asante and Curenski Gilleylen.

There is no media availability after this afternoon's practice.

That's great to here about Niles.

I'm also really looking forward to watching Culbert play this year. I wonder if Brent Musberger is going to refer to him over & over as "Thhhe Major" like he did with his  Applewhite love.

That was so sickening.

Also, very telling coming from Hickman shooting it straight. It's a reality check to indicate this group still needs work. Not every day is going to be a warm fuzzy story on the front page.

Niles is the number 1 guy, but I wouldn't be surprised if he muffs a couple, attempts to return a punt inside the 10 yard line etc, that we will see Swift back there.

Ha. More like Major "Asswipe"! Am I right? Heh. Never mind.

Good for Niles. Hopefully our defense will force some punts this year so he can get the ball in his hands and show us what he can do.

I don't know that we'll see alot of the upperclassmen returning much. Probably best that some of these younger speed types get their chance to show what they have. I won't be suprised to see several players rotated in the first few weeks, before anyone settles in. But we'll see, as long as they make good decisions back there, cough...Nunn...cough then they should be fine.
