The Bad News Blackshirts

When you start to win--and you start to know you're a winner--you'll see that fire again.
That's huge. MSU's defense has that attitude. Hopefully we get it back.
we did in '09. i remember thinking i was more confident with our defense on the field than our offense. they had a better chance of scoring and less of a chance of giving up a td. it had a lot to do with their confidence and attitude (or, baditude, if you will).

And..have to mention Rich Glover in that list of mean, nasty feared blackshirts of old. Damn I get goose bumps just thinking of the way that dude played "D"...
I would have put him on that list, but it was only a list of players I've watched. I was in diapers when Glover played.

psssshhhh....kids these days....lol I have to say, I was pretty young then too. My first game, I don't even remember who the opponent was..some Big 8 team...I was watching Glover through binoculars and he was jawing the guy across from him the whole game.....then just wrecking him....

Absolutely. That '09 defense was nasty. Everything that a defense should be.

I would say this is how football rules have changed the game more then how the players have changed.

Here are a couple prime examples

Courtney Osborne's sack on Gabbert. Osbourne keeps his head up & Gabbert turtles up before the hit causing the hit to be high on Gabbert. Flag is thrown. In todays rules he could be tossed.

SJB's hit on Prudue RB. SJB dropped his head & made contact with the players helmet and the football. He was tossed from the game. 10yrs ago that was a hit that was tought. Get your helmet on the ball and good thing will happen.

Heres another. Notre Dame DL drops his head to make a hit & the Pitt QB does the same. Both players drop there head but the DL is ejected for targeting even though the both dropped their heads to create the problem.

The rules have been changed to put the defense at a dissadvantage. You will even see obvious holding calls not made. Has anyone ever seen a RB get thrown for a helmet hit? Probably not as that is not who they care about.

While I agree with everything you said. A holding call can be be called each and every down if the refs are being technical on any team.

That is why I said obvious holding calls. The inside stuff is gonna happen & refs can't make or see every little call, but when a OL gets beat turns around & grabs the back of a jersey just enough to let the QB flee & the ref is starring at the play & doesn't throw a flag is when there is a problem.
