The Maudfather's Lincoln Experience

The Maudfather

All-American
So, as most of you long time posters know, I am from Oklahoma...Bartlesville, to be exact. I drove up to the KC area on Wednesday night to spend Thanksgiving with the family, before embarking early Friday morning for the chilly land of big red: Lincoln, NE. My younger brother and I arrive in Lincoln around 9am and hit the Walmart off of highway 2, by Menard's. I don't know if it was the fact that it was Black Friday or what, but this Wal Mart sucked when it comes to Nebraska merchandise. It seems that any Wal Mart in Oklahoma is just stocked to the max with all things OU and Okie Jr..I ended up not buying a single thing and left very unimpressed. <_< After the Wal Mart fiasco, we arrive at the church we always park at...I think it's on like 12th and Q. Anyway, we don't have tickets at this point so we start walking downtown toward the stadium, trying to sneak back and touch the horseshoe like we did in 08. Unfortunately, we arrived a little too late and the gate was being manned by some grunt that wouldn't let us back there for anything. We go back downtown and run into a guy selling 2 tickets in section 37 for about 30 bucks above face. I talk him down a little bit and teach my younger brother a valuable lesson in ticket scalping. :corndance Now that we have our tickets, it's around 11am and we still have some time to kill, so we go buy some new husker gear and kill about an hour. Damn, now I've got about 2 hours to burn before I head to the stadium...what to do? The same thing that any other newly 21 year old would do. Get boozed up and ready to roll for game time :wasted . So I drive to the liqour store, vigorously search for some Four Locos, but much to my dismay this particular liquor store never carried them  . I end up buying me a 6 pack of Corona's along with a couple of Sparks. We arrive back at the church, I down the Sparks, thinking it's time to get my :cheers on when I realize that my tunnel vision has proved costly: I have forgot perhaps the most critical element of all...a bottle opener. So I'm desperately searching through my car for one and cant find anything. I slyly get out of my car with the six pack, got to the light pole and knock the caps off of the bottles on the cylindrical cement thing holding the light pole in place: crafty :cheers . Knowing that my time in Lincoln would somehow end in me getting pretty tanked, I pour all of my beer into this strategically placed 64oz cup and BOOM we're on our way. My brother and I head to Valentino's, order up a large pizza, finish the thing and I eventually run out of alcohol with about an hour and a half till game time. I decide we should find a place to sit down and watch some football to kill time. We hit up this bar on the corner, next to Buffalo Wild Wings...I forget the name, but when we get there, there's a waiting list. There is an open booth, but only for a party of four. So, I ask one of the guys in line if he would mind sharing a booth, as we're just looking to kill some time. My brother and I sat with this man, who's name escapes me, but I think his wife's name was Tammy...anyway, we sit with this couple for about an hour. I ordered up a couple of bud lights and we're talking about husker football, they're telling me how they live in North Kansas, but they've traveled to Seattle for the Washington game and countless other venues. We get on the topic of online message boards and I gladly boast that I post on huskerboard and convince him that he should check it out. Really a nice couple, can't say enough about how much I enjoyed their company (and in the event that you are reading this, I certainly appreciate the couple of beers and good conversation).

We say goodbye to the couple and head for the stadium. Get to the stadium and have to fight a massive group of people to get to our seats, ended up missing part of the tunnel walk. Get to our seats and there is a lone Colorado fan in our section who was pretty outspoken. He was adamant that he'd take his Cody over our Cody any day of the week and talked a little bit of sh#t  . As the game went on and Hawkins threw a pair of picks, I would occasionally yell "Come on, it's division one football, it's the Big XII, this aint intramurals, brother!" :snacks: Late in the fourth quarter I asked if the worst day as a buffalo are still better than the best as a husker. :laughpound He was actually a pretty decent dude and took the jokes pretty well.

After the game ended, we enjoyed the fantastic post game video....it gave me goosebumps, especially the end "o :bigredn: e last time" (if anyone has a link to it, that would be much appreciated). The fireworks really set all off.

All in all, I had a great time in Lincoln and would like to note that when The Maudfather is in attendance in Lincoln, we are 4-0. Looking forward to leaving the conference the right way, closing the book on a storied rivalry....

Going toe-to-toe with OU o :bigredn: e more time.

Go Big Red
